Hear, hear Ben (or is it here here?!)... well said. I wash my hands of this then :p

I think it's fairest to say that there are different tiers of "clubs" and bars.

It used to be that bars played rock and clubs dance music, but now you have the top-40 schlock clubs ontop of the electronic house/prog/trance clubs, not to mention the hip-hop/rnb ones as well and the ever present (yet dwindling) rocker bars.

In looking @ Toronto these days compared to years past, you had Guv vs Industry. Two entirely different venues, and somewhat different crowds, but mostly a shared group. I think it's fair to say @ the moment (backed by the current poll) that it's Guv and System these days @ the top of the tier most on this board would consider a "club".

The votes for KH are intriguing, and make me wonder that if the KH reno hadn't taken place, how many of those votes would go to System or Guv, and how the standings would be now.

As much as I hate the main Guv complex (the side rooms and KH are great places) I'll always concede it's in a class by itself. The place holds thousands, and unless someone builds up something to compete directly with it, it will remain the "Superclub" of the local scene. However, things never seem to change in the main room proper, and aside from the removal of the couches on the stage a few years ago, Guv hasn't seen any major reno and deco to my knowledge. The lights are extensive, but blind me more than trip me out these days.

I guess I'm agreeing with you in principle Marg, and I certainly understand where you're coming from. I was a hardcore Guv head from 1998-2001 as well as spending my other time @ Industry, Exit and Zone.

Perhaps I fit in the Jaded Raver categorey :tongue2

that's just my opinion.. :)

i know that the Guv room is equipped with Phazon and has more lasers, etc. than the Koolhaus does, but i still find the system in the KH just more enjoyable to experience. i dunno maybe it's because i have a harder time hearing people in the Guv than in the KH. I think the Guv has those "sweet spots" where if you're standing there you get the full effect of the Phazon, whereas with KH things seem to be more equally balanced. I like Viva's laser system better than the Guv's laser system, but i also prefer KH's non-laser lighting over Guv's lasers as well. Lazers aren't the only thing that does it for me.

again, that's just my opinion. :D

i have to agree with you there emery, but sometime the Kool Haus speakers and lightings are ed up.

Guvernment is the best club and lighting(lasers) system i have seen so far , well and viva's light(someone help me get it into kool haus)lol

Guvernment i have had pretty crazy nights out there....:D

overall i say guvernement is a good club minus the ginos and the people who push you around - well basically overcorwded , i like to see a little more balance on the crowd though.

i think the vibe and people do make a diffrence, OH MY GOD!!! TRANCEADDICT RULES!!! YOU GUYS MAKE THE VIBE ALIVE!!!

:D:D

System..hmmm.. not the greatest venue i would say its alright. its small and the lighting nothing spectacular

VIVA- I love the club, except the the darn club is too far off for me... the lighting is simply awesome. also, well the crowd sometimes bothers me though, i feel outnumbered in the asian crowd.

Sound emporium i have been only once..its not a great club once again, its alright

GUVERNMENT- i think i am a GUVAHOLIC NOW!, i was there practically every saturday night throughout summer.!!! -THIS IS A ING CLUB!!!
AWESOME SYSTEM AND LIGHTING, TO TOP OFF THE ICING ON THE CAKE THE BEST RESIDENT DJ-MARK OLIVER(TOO BAD HE DOESNT PLAY A LITTLE HARDER TRANCE LIKE HE MAKES APPERANCES AT VIVA!!! MARK IF YOUR READING THIS PLEASE PLAY SOMETHING MORE THAN THE HOUSEY TUNES!!)
djeso
System Soundbar :D

Not that this is relevant, but I would vote ARIA over Guv as the best club in Canada, in terms of crowd, music, SOUND (trust me, Aria's system is now better than Guv's), lighting (no lasers at Aria, but the pothole lights and suspended, moving light columns from the ceiling are amazing), friendliness of security, sense of safety in the club, club set up...

Sorry, I just had to post this after all the praise for Guv the super club in this thread.

n'n'no, that's not what I meant. :)

Just saying, for everyone who thinks that, on those measures, Guvernment is the best club ever and cannot be surpassed, check out Aria. I'm not trying to be superior or anything, I'm trying to share the Aria experience with those who haven't been, because it takes most of the positive aspects of different Toronto clubs and combines them in one venue. (somehow)

Right silke???

ditto again.

i find that aria has a lot of what is good about system and what is good about guv, but not a lot of what is bad about both. but it's not fair to say aria

i also think that KH shouldn't count as a 'club.' I mean, there is no regular night is a special venue used for special events, meaning it is not an option on a weekly basis. one week you might have a tiesto, the next sum 41. so i basically in my own mind, discounted it as a actual venue. if KH was used on a weekly basis, that would be ideal, more b/c of the space issue. what i like about KH, is that usually it is used for a special event, so you often get more ppl ther for the dj then just b/c it's the 'cool thing to do/good place to be high'
