Which is the best (and worst) pair of headphones? (pg. 9)

does anyone know anything about seinheiser hd-580s? Are they good for dj applications? Im in the market for some headphones too and i was considering them and the mdr-v700s because they look cool (ill admit it)
Gluegun
*sigh*

The HD-580's are NOT mixing headphones. They are kickass audiophile headphones, but they don't have the following features that you all would need:

They don't block out ANY outside noise
(I think) the drivers don't rotate 360 degrees
They can't be driven easily by a crappy headphone jack

Maybe if you would BOTHER TO READ THIS THREAD, you would find that the Sony MDR-V6 are the best DJ headphones for you...

Does NO ONE on this forum bother to READ this thread?
rajay
i read it... i would rather get the 700s though because they look cooler
Gluegun
GYAH!!

You would rather get something that's 1/10th the quality and the utalitarianism of the other one because it LOOKS COOLER?!?!

DEAR GOD!

ARGH. If you're gonna get crappy DJ headphones based on looks, at LEAST go with something made by Technics, rather than Sony. At least THOSE are BUILT WELL!
DJTJ
Gluegun, to answer your question, I've been following this thread. (well, at least I THINK I'm normal, I could be wrong!)

I would like to ask you a question though, seeing as you appear to know a great deal about headphones.

I am currently using a very old pair of headphones, bought by my dad about 20 years ago (I think). They still work perfectly, and to me sound very good. I was wondering if you had ever heard of/used them, and if so whether you think they are any use to me for DJing. They are the Pioneer SE-450.

Cheers!
Gluegun
Unfortunately, no, I have never heard of them...

I would suggest you post the exact model number, a description, any specs you can give, and a picture at either www.headwize.com or www.head-fi.org

If you really wanna know, that is.

!!!!!!!!
I think I figured out why Trance and such supposedly sound so "good" through these types of headphones....

The DJ's are COUNTING on you using speakers or headphones like this! That's what they MIX it WITH, that's what they mix it FOR. If you listen to Trance on the V6's, you do *not* get that "club atmosphere", you do NOT get a sense of being in a club, not because they're bad headphones (they're GREAT headphones), but because the DJ doesn't know enough about putting these spacial cues in a recording to MAKE it seem like you or in a club; that, or they simply don't care... BECAUSE, chances are, you are going to be listening to this with crappy speakers or headphones which, by their very nature, by their natural DISTORTIONS AND COLORATIONS AND RESONANCES, add a "false room" (read: all of those echoes and resonances in the V700's) to the mix!! So, you could be mixing, and listen to some trance through the V700's, and then the V6's, and decide you like the V700's sound better..... BUT THEN, if you know what you are DOING, you know about harmonics and resonances and the acoustics of the place you want to simulate, you can *ADD* the natural effects that something like the V700's gives to the mix, only better and more controlled, and THEN listen to it through the V6's (which are capable of reproducing mostly ANYTHING)....IT WILL SOUND INCREDIBLY AWESOME!! Anyways, that's what I'm saying; you NEED to get a GOOD idea of what is ACTUALLY ON THE RECORDING, not a DISTORTION of what is on the recording!

By the way, I'm thinking that the CD3000's is one of the few phones that add this false room in a good way (through soundstage and such), which is why they are so godly at trance...because you EXPECT it to be all around you. If you DON'T expect it, and have never been to a club, but just like trance, than the Grado SR-325's, because of their incredible impact, would probably be the best trance headphones.
DJTJ
I'm not THAT bothered, I just thought maybe I could find out if they were any use or not. Thanks anyway though!

Hey! Tranceaddicts! There is this REALLY informative thread that you all should read on this very subject!!

Here, go here:

http://headwize.com/ubb/showpage5.p...7181753&fpage=1

Anyways, I posted roughly the same thing as I posted here earlier, but there is a LOT more context, from DJ's who have TRIED the V700's, and TRIED the V6's, and who HAVE the 325's!!

And a guy who likes the V900's over a multi-thousand-dollar headphone system!

READ!

The best would have to be the sony mdv-r700dj's... hands down.

And the worst would have to be those cheap ass earbuds you get with generic walkmans made in taiwan.

Gluegun
[POST DELETED. The origional subject stated how strongly I disagree that the V700's are the best headphones to mix with.]
DJAdamSmith
Yes, I read it and I disagree. For listening to music they suck, but for spinning they're great. I can hear the bass nice and clear for beatmatching. If he wanted to know your opinion he would have had your name in the thread.

Ever hear of a personal opinion? Damn nazi...
