Hmm I don't know about that. I think the only main difference is the US has 3rd world healthcare for those who cannot afford it (proper healthcare). Like I said, try to go somewhere near the border so you can get the best of both worlds. New York has some of the best art museums in the world.

I agree with many of the others here. If you're going to high school, go to canada. There are a lot of decent high schools in the US but you don't want to take the chance of being stuck in some ty school in the middle of nowhere. Remember, the US is big and therefore the concentration of places where there are things to do (comprable to your experiences) is relatively slim compared to Europe. If you're going to university than definitely go to the US. I think that would have the experience you're looking for. Otherwise, if you are still intent on going to a US high school then try to go to a magnet school that has an International Baccalaureate program (there are quite a few) or some others that have specialized AP programs. My public high school was quite excellent, however I had to take tests to go there rather than my local assigned high school. You might want to consider asking to do that in your program.

Just make sure to carry a knife onto the plane and yell bomb when you get on it. Yep, you should be ok.......:D

Andrew i would highly encourage you not to come here for high school, but to wait for college.

In the terms of public high schools there are some really good ones, there are some really ty ones and there are some just avg. ones. The really good ones are located in wealthy suburbs (like in my home town, St. Louis, the only public high schools worth any thing are Ladue, Clayton and arguably Lafayette). Thats out of about 10 highschools around here.
If you want a good High School education you need to go to a private high school. Most of those can cost just as much as university though.
Also my Aunt participates in one of those programs to bring kids from foreign countries to study in HS in america. I feel so sorry for the kids that have to stay with her. Her husband is some deadbeat alcoholic abusive hick who thankfully now is long gone, and her three children are wild hellions. She barely scrapes by, and uses the program of hosting kids to gain extra cash. She's definatly in the low tier of American society as is alot of the other people like her who host kids.
Plus if you come to america to study in HS remember your very limited with what you can go and do socially. Drinking age is 21, plus the public transport systme here is so the only way to really get around is in cars and i doubt you will be able to afford one here or that the family will provide one for you, so you will have to depend on others toget around. Also16 and 17 year olds plus alcohol and cars don't get along too well. Two of my good friends died in my last year of highschool as do many other kids around my home town almost every month or so.
If you want to learn english go to either Canada, England, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa. Those countries would provide a much better experience i think.
Hell I would have loved to come study in Europe for high school.

I would highly recomend coming here for University though. The United States has some of the best Uni's in the world and the college experience here can be quite fun. Choosing which place to go is a big deal though which would require quite alot more discussion.

Since you're close....

If you have time, maybe you could come to Detroit (see some sights, although Detroit is quite decrepit, party in an American club... assuming you're 18). Let me know if you're interested. I'm sure that I could show you around... :)

BTW, when are you going to be doing this? Next school year?

thanks, much apprechiated :) yeah i'm 18 :)

is there any trance scene in detroit? somehow i only assoiate it with hip hop and such stuff :p

i will go there august 28 :)

The trance scene in Detroit isn't that great. It is the "birthplace of techno".

Lately, however, the clubs have been bringing in some great DJs. (AvB was a week or so ago, Deep Dish Tiesto coming up, etc.) If I weren't so poor, I'd go out more often. The thing that sucks the most is that the clubs close at 2. You get usually a couple of hours of the headliner, and that's it:whip: :whip: .

Anyways, I hope your time in Canada is good, and welcome to North America. :toothless

I have heard that high school is a ty education (true?).
The Swedish high school system doesn't "care" that i have stuied there so i have to study one extra year in Sweden.

- depends on what part of america you are going, if it's a nice neighborhood then it can be good.

you sure about the 19,000 USD? you would be an international student and some places charge more for that.

you should come to america, it would be journey you won't forget kakaka.
