Thor, i still dont agree with your "there will be no mafia if its legal" point, especially in the alcohol scenerio you gave. i can give a scenerio opposite was taking place..... Viagra :stongue: no im not kidding when this thing came out the companies set the price, very high of course cause they had the legal patent over it. but other viagra like substances appeared on the market for cheaper, illegaly of course. if this were applied to drugs and the government had control over prices it has the option of setting a high price, meaning mafias doing it for cheaper or letting the market determine the price which would create cheap prices everyone can afford which isnt nessicarily a good thing. am i making sense? :conf: as i said earlier i do think if drugs become legal it'll fall to private corporations... hey we now live in the new world of capitlism.
btw thor i too enjoy discussing our different viewpoints... pretty interesting stuff but who are we kidding this legalization wont happen in our lifetime |

no but seriously, you said you were going to college this fall. i recommand you take a economy class as an elective if you have the chance, im in computer engineering but had to take a social elective. i choose economy and boy i was surprised at how interesting it is. |

| I don't care if ppl do it or not, its th eir choice, as for myself i use to smoke weed, but i don't do that anymore. And as adivce don't get urself cought up in Heroin or Crystal Meth, i know friend that do that and it s u up pretty damn good in the long run and i'm not talkin about positive highs or like htat. |

The government would not have the drug prices high, that would defeat the purpose of legalization because that would encourage the black market to thrive. Like I said whether the government gets very involved or just collects the taxes from its sales.. the prices of the drugs will be affordable because the goal of legalization is to remove the illegal drug trade from our countries.
Private companies would likely take over, if not be selected right away, just depends on the countries. Iceland for example would have the government run the stores that sell drugs, while obviously the Americans would prefer that private companies sell them.. But even in the USA's case, there would be strong regulations plus a great deal of rules for operating a drug business..
And yes I do agree that we won't see it in our lifetime, although you never know. Look at Canada, the legalizing of medical marijuana is a great first step.. And the top justice in BC has made many statements about legalization, that sure makes me smile... At least a few out there are thinking the right way :D
Did you know that justice in BC made a public statement to the US about them pressuring Canada to be tougher on drug crime... He basicly said the American's shouldn't be telling us how to fight drugs since they are failing miserably at it. |

There are people who fight for the rest of us to get weed legalized, I think out of respect for them we should at least give it some thought. I hate the fact some of the things I enjoy could land me in jail, thats just wrong..
People have to fight injustices in this world, the more people that speak out the better.
But pass the J, I won't complain ;) |
