Religion brings together a group of people, but it doesnt bring the world together in unity, only superiority to other religions and people who do not share their common faith.
Thats my take |

The norse mythology predates the Christian religion by several hundred years. What you may be remembering was the way in which Christianity was originally embraced into the Viking culture. Monks found that they could convert many of the norsemen to Christianity if they mixed the typical christian rituals with the traditional rituals of the worship of the old gods.

Yep
Religion totally DIVIDES people.
More people have died in this world protecting some sort of religious faith than any other reason.
"my belief is better than yours", and no I don't want a Gadt damn milk shake.
I like the spiritual concept of it all.....that there is a high sense of whateverness and so on....But im not going to designate human rules to something devine.

You know another funny thing about the Bible? Most Christians are anti-war, right? And think that violence is un-neccesary, right? Notice how in the OT(Old Testament), alot of wars and stuff go are fought and theres tons of bloodshed, and then suddenly Jebus comes along and preaches the golden rule , and everything's different.
Contradictory, nein? |

also, many converted in order to form political allegiances with the frankish empire, or to gain lands within the frankish empire. in many cases, it was just more profitable for norse leaders to convert to christianity, and impose it on their people. i don't think it had much to do with the "merits" of christianity...

| But some Norse found that it was also profitable to raid monastaries and steal every bit of gold they can find :D. That way they didn't have to change their beliefs. |

that's true, however, in many cases they continued to raid monestaries/towns/whatever even after they were converted...

your contradicting yourself. how is it that you can like spirituality but say it divides the people? spirituality brings people together, ego brings people apart.
all the religions of the world are connected, theyre all different ways of saying infinite truths. however its my belief that the only way one can move on from truth to pure enlightenment is though YHShWH the CHrist, or the man people refer to as Jesus. All the other prophets ie. Moses, Buddha, Mohammed all spoke of inner truth. however i believe that its Christ who fufills the prophecies before him and broke down the barriers that man tried to put between him and God. no need for human rules, just communication between all of us and the Creator. |
