Musa the warrior (chinese/korean) was rather entertaining as well.

Hells yeah! A quality film, although I'd imagine it would lose quite a bit with the translation.

Also try Beloe Solntse Pustyni (White Sun of the Desert, Russia 1970)

A soldier of the Red Army named Sukhov has been fighting in the Russian Civil War in Russian Asia for many years. Just as he is about to return home to his wife, Sukhov is chosen to guard and protect the harem of a guerilla leader (Abdulla). Abdulla is wanted by the Red Army and left his harem behind because the women hindered him. Sukhov's task proves to be more difficult than he imagined...

Hey I just found this out from that link:

It is an unbreakable tradition that Russian cosmonauts and foreign guests watch this movie the day before they blast off aboard a Soyuz rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome.

It's a remarkable film, yes. However since I don't know Russian and I've only seen this film with subtitles, i guess it would have more of an impact if i did.

Also i will try and check out Beloe Solntse Pustyni if I can find it somewhere.

Didn't mean for my sentence to be offensive =p.

Hable Con Ella is great.. The part where Caetano Veloso sings and everyone watches is beautiful.

Has anyone seen "Dirty Pretty Things"?

Though it's english, definitly not typical american film making. Loved that one.

I agree! What a beautiful, beautiful moment and song. My friends were laughing at his odd vocals but I thought it was georgous. That was the most memorable for me, or watching the actress in slow motion at the bullfight. I'm a typical Almodovar fan. More so for his film scores and color. I reccommend "Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown."

I love this thread!! I always head to the foreign film section first, but have been disappointed so many times. For example, and I don't recall the name, I believe I got a film from Japan about this explorer who was researching a beetle in sand dunes. He encounters a woman in the dune and eventually goes mad and rapes her and they in turn they fall in love amongst their madness. IT WAS HORRID. But better than anything I've seen from pop culture.

This thread is my new reference guide. Thanks!
