Arturo - great job on closing that FFS thread....I know if I'd posted a little more in there, it would have escalated into a full on flame war. :wtf:
Have fun at Voodoo with Oscar G last night? |

| My understanding is that it is up to the mod and to Swamper to decide if a thread stays open or is closed. This thread was opened with the intention to allow mindless babble. It was opened by our mod. What more needs to be discussed? We love you Art! :D |

its actually up to all mods to vote. Personally, I'm for threads up to a certain size, but after that size has been reached, I'd rather them be closed simply for the fact that people don't want to look thru pages and pages of random banter. Also, those large threads slow down TA when the search function is run. NYTA had its on spam thread and it turned from a little joke to a 16,000 post thread. It got so big that if I had deleted it all of ta would have crashed. I don't think we need threads like that anymore. If you want to post that much, use aim, msn, icq, etc... |

| I can understand that and I completely respect it as well. Do you think this thread is as large as others are currently? |

didn't swamper clear this mess up before with large threads. Since there are not a high volume of people using them there really is not noticable server slow down.
and I am guessing on this one, but won't the new search method take care of any slowdown search problems? |

swamper actually never cleared anything up really. We have always had a mod issue about spam threads. Its usually been cut down the middle for stay or go. I have been lobbying for either A) a post size limit or B) a thread time limit, this would restrict retards from resurrecting dead threads. It has nothing to do with the fact that you guys have a thread with 13,000 posts. It's the chat threads on TA as a whole. Even the people in the PPR thread eventually got so fed up with the stupidity of it that I closed it. It started out as a simple joke between 4 people and escalated into 16,000 replies of nonsense. I know 90% of ta has nonsensical threads (99% in COR) but I think there has to be a limit on these kinds of threads. |

That was my whole point. When we spam in other threads you direct us to post in this one. It will get large...that's just the nature of the beast. I'm sure it will get closed once it gets too big and I think we are all ok with that.
Back to my previous post...what were you doing last night at 2am? :D |

see my thinking is that these threads are fine, as long as the main intent is not to post as quick as you can and not to post non-conversational replies (eg, random pics or random sayings).
if you avoid those then you have a discussion, which to me is what a bulletin board is made to facilitate. |
