if you avoid those then you have a discussion, which to me is what a bulletin board is made to facilitate. |
Its fine and dandy to assume that these threads are all self-contained utopias, but just like all messageboards we know better. People will come in and out and try and start just because they know how huge the thread is. I'm sure you are all friends in that giant thread, but we cant be closing some and allowing others to stay open. If we are going to moderate chat threads and other massive threads then we either have to be 100% across the board or 0% across the board |

I will agree with that. There is a portion that does depend on what went on in that thread. If it was closed for size it's one thing. If it was closed because of the content that's different. As long as people know and understand why (it's being closed) then they shouldn't bitch. I do agree that it has to be the same in all the forums. |

well my point is that the cali thread and this thread are different than the other ones.
PPR for example was made for spamming, I think we can agree that repling to get custom status is spamming.
also a thread titled, Post whores, upgrade you user status by placing useless junk in this thread, can also be labeled as spam.
however topics like this one are created for conversations between people in this area and other friends. it is not made to boost post count or anything related to that.
So I think a better way to think of it is that mods should close spam threads, not just long threads. Spamming meaning posting as quickly as you can and posting non-conversational replies (eg, random pics or random sayings). I think that seems, so far, to be a decent definition of spamming, and as long as these threads do not start doing that, I am thinking they are not even comparable to the other threads.
I hope I am being clear here, that I don't see the PPR and aussie threads as being comparable to these two threads. They do have a lot of replies, however it is the intent and usage of the post that should be under consideration, and i know that at least 2 mods follow our cali thread, and it seems like two follow this thread, so it would be easy to detect if the intent strays. |

Sure ash hell made sense to me and I agree with that.
By the way, Boomer what is/was PPR? I'm not familiar with it. I'm usually only in FLTA & COR. |

see, thats where I don't think you follow. the PPR thread "started" as a spam thread only as a joke between 4 people. Then it totally went off on a tangent and became the 1st true freinds thread with PPR meet-ups happening frequently. Titles to me mean nothing, I could post a title of "get your here" and it could be all about chinese food, but if you go in and read the content you will see they all share the same characteristics of a group bonding and outsiders trying to stir up. In your case Sandstorm, Mikey Mike, and a few others are the outsiders, in PPR it was a different cast. In the aussie one the same thing happened. You hope that your thread can stay happy through 13,000 replies, but I know you have been here long enough to know that that isn't going to happen and the thread will eventually be closed. Everyone seems to think that if the thread is closed all that was said is lost. All we are asking is that instead of keeping the old 1 going start a new one and close the old one once it gets too large. |
