Mozart.
Composing a symphony at age 6? No contest. Only person that comes to my mind is him... |

He's not a genius for that, his works as a child are not that impressive. His later works though, are truly sublime and godly.
But hands down the greatest musical genius of all time was Beethoven. Not only did he push music forward and actually put it up in the metaphysical level of the other arts, but he was the key instrumental figure in the evolution of sound and the rupture with old structures and traditions. Not to mention that his style got progressively more complex with time, along with his deafness (early period-middle period-late period). He was so influential in the further development of music that great composers such as Wagner and philosophers such as Schopenhauer assured that Beethoven's music had replaced God as the highest entity known to mankind.:thepirate |

| Beethoven and Mozart for your classical stuff. Kraftwerk for a more modern appeal, possibly along with John Cage. I'd also love to say Richard D. James, but I'm not quite sure if he's there yet. Same with Maynard James Keenan. |
