Fred Phelps expose' by an undercover reporter:
http://ourworld.compuserve.com/home...rty/expose3.htm
| quote: |
"Sit down," says Fred Phelps, rumored ogre, with an effusive Southern graciousness. "But I got to tell you, you know we're going to preach the word, the same thing I've been preaching for 46 years, and it's supremely, supremely irrelevant to us what anybody thinks or says. "You get a little bit of this message I'm preaching, you can't ask for anything more. God hates fags-that's a synopsis."
Phelps, 63, a disbarred lawyer and Baptist preacher from Mississippi, is on a mission from God. His face lights up like a kid's on Christmas morning when he talks about how the nation is reacting to his anti- homosexual campaign. He contends the Bible supports the death penalty for sodomy:
"I'm not urging anybody to kill anybody," he adds, then matter-of-factly explains how his interpretation of the Bible calls for precisely that:
"The death penalty was violently carried out by God on a massive scale when the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by fire and brimstone," says Phelps. "I am inclined to the view that the closer man's laws come to God's laws, the better off our race will be."
Phelps has found the national spotlight by disrupting the mourners' grieving at the funerals of AIDS victims. His followers carry picket signs outside the services with such stone-hearted messages as GOD HATES FAGS and FAGS 3DDEATH.
Last spring, he and his tiny band traveled to Washington, D.C., to taunt the gay parade, creating a near-riot. Since then, Phelps has been the subject of a 20-20 segment, appeared on the Jane Whitney Show twice to mock homosexuals, and is now regularly interviewed on both Christian and secular radio across America.
Fred Phelps, pastor of the Westboro Baptist Church in the Kansas capital of Topeka, since 1990 has also been an unsuccessful candidate for mayor, governor, and United States Senator. Currently he is negotiating his own radio show-one that will be heard throughout the Midwest.
His message is simple: God hates most everybody and He's sending them all to hell. Makes no difference how they lived their life.
For the Pastor Phelps, except for a handful of 'elect', the human race is composed of depraved beasts. God hates these creatures and so do His favored few. The world is divided sharply and irreversibly between the multitude of the already-damned (called the reprobate or the Adamic Race) and those chosen by God to attend Him in heaven. Those selected to be elect were tapped, not for the rectitude of their lives, but by what could best be described as the Supreme Whim of the Deity.
While this is the theology of predestination, one that in less vengeful minds is a mainstay of many Protestant sects, in Fred Phelps' mind it has become a green light to hatred and cruelty.
Recently, Pastor Phelps has added a corollary to this thesis that God hates the human race: God reserves His most pure and profound hatred for the homosexuals among the Adamic race.
At 63, Phelps is a triathlon competitor who bikes or runs every day. The strongest thing he drinks is what he calls his 'vitamin C cocktail', consisting of Vitamin C, Diet Pepsi, and water.
The pastor basks in the heat of the outrage triggered by his campaign against homosexuals.
"If you're preaching the truth of God, people are going to hate you," he grins. "Nobody has the right to think he's preaching the truth of God unless people hate him for it. All the prophets were treated that way."

I think you are right. I can't possibly see how anyone can twist the bible's message to such hideous proportions as this. |

Do you all think this guy is faking it too, or does he really need treatment for his delusions? :)

This is a partial transcript of The Big Story With Rita Cosby, Feb. 7, 2003, that has been edited for clarity.
RITA COSBY: Well, the race for the White House is on. And with tough issues like gay marriage facing the nation, the morals race is also on.
Former presidential candidate Pat Robertson (search) likes George Bush's re-election chances, in fact, Reverend Robertson said that God told him Bush was going to win big in November. He joins us now from Virginia Beach. And his latest book is called "The Ten Offenses."
Pat, welcome. In 1988, then you were candidate Robertson, right, you won the Washington caucus which happened tonight, right?
PAT ROBERTSON, FMR. PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Rita, yes, that was one of my big wins. At the convention seeing all those candidates or these delegates with those little green umbrellas at the convention hall is a great thrill for me. They're terrific people.
COSBY: How much of a barometer do you think Washington is then? You didn't win, a lot of people wanted to you win, but you didn't win the full kahuna, what about this as a barometer? Kerry won fabulously in also Michigan.
ROBERTSON: I tell you as matter of fact with the few finaglings, I won Michigan, too, so that was something to me at least in the early caucuses I took them. But Michigan and Washington have a very strong evangelical Christian base along with a labor base. It's — they're two interesting states of strong, strong unions, strong labor, et cetera, along with a strong evangelical. So I think they mirror the United States very much.
COSBY: Now what do you think of John Kerry, because you've been quoted as saying that President Bush — that basically God has told you that President Bush will be re-elected that you believe he's the right guy. Did God tell you this or how did you get this message?
ROBERTSON: Well, Rita, actually, I've been a little bit misquoted in the AP. I said I believe I've heard from the lord, which is a little bit different from saying God told me. But nevertheless, I think it's going to be a very strong blow out for Bush next fall. I know everybody is saying well he's down in the polls, et cetera, etcetera. But there are 84.3 million investors in America, people that own stock. And the Democrats have taken aim at the investor class. And I believe when they wake up to the fact that Kerry is after their money and then they begin to realize that this man was voting to the left of Ted Kennedy, when Bush unloads that $100 to $150 million on him it's going to be a different ball game.
COSBY: One of the things I'm you're upset about this decision that took place just a few days ago, a lot of people were very stunned, Massachusetts, the gay marriage decision. In fact, I want to show a poll, it's very much in contrast to what the American public is thinking. In some recent polls, it's showing it asked, do you support same-sex marriages. Twenty five percent say they support it, 66 percent, a whopping 66 percent say they oppose it. Were you stunned with this decision to enforce it in Massachusetts?
ROBERTSON: Rita, I was expecting it but the nation should be stunned. And I think even the legislature, Democrat and Republican in Massachusetts is stunned. Mit Romney, the governor, says we are going after that. We have got to have an amendment. And I think that is why the president is moving post haste to get a national amendment. I hate to see this kind of thing put into the federal constitution in a sense, but the Supreme Court has already put it in. The Supreme Court has said, there's a constitutional right to homosexuality. Well, that's not in the constitution but they put it there. So we needed a defense of marriage. You know, marriage is the procreation of the young, the transfer of our values to young people. Homosexuals and lesbians don't procreate create, so they don't need marriage.
COSBY: Although some people would say, look, they deserve the same rights as everybody else, what do you say to that?
ROBERTSON: Well, I tell you what, the first time two homosexual men are able to conceive a child, I'll change my point of view. Until they do, I'll say, I'm sorry, I can't.
COSBY: And that would be a miracle. All right. Real quick, two points I want to get with you, Dr. Robertson. First, your book about the ten offenses. Obviously, ten commandments has been under fire, removed from the Alabama courthouse, why do you think the ten commandments are so important right now at this time in history?
ROBERTSON: They were the foundation of the moral code of America, the foundation of our common law. And the very foundational values, you shall not kill, stealing, adultery, bearing false witness in court, that kind of thing. These are very serious matters for us. And for the Supreme Court to say that that has no educational value is just appalling. I'm pointing out in my book how the courts have usurped the function of the legislature. We just saw this in Massachusetts. So they are doing it at the state level, also at the national level.
COSBY: All right. Pat Robertson, always good to have you on.
ROBERTSON: Thanks Rita.
COSBY: Thank you.

On his 700 Club Channel he called for a war with North Korea after showing a segment about how he helps migrant farms workers get dental treatment (which I support). |

| there is no evidence for penguins having homosexaul sex or any other animal Ive read the reports and the facts are that the cientists who researched this were eithe gay or gay right activists....other reports done by totally neutral scientists have shown the exact oposite....that penguins rarely have sex ... |

We all know penguins reproduce by binary division anyway... like sponges and aliens. I mean, if they rarely have sex, then how else can they reproduce? :conf: |

Err, sorry to break it to you - but humans weren't 'created' for any particular purpose. Why would you hate them? Furthermore, how are they dysfunctional?
Gay men aren't homosexual because they hate women. They don't have any choice in the matter. The general consensus is that it's probably biological and/or genetic, possibly with some environmental factors involved as well. Either way, asserting that they're like that because they 'hate on women' is misguided at best, and downright idiotic at worst.
And yes - before asserting that 'god hates fags' - it might be a good idea to actually present some reputable evidence to show that he actually exists first.
And yes, Fred Phelps is a first class wit. |
I couldn't have said this any better. Thanks.
Fred Phelps is one of the few people who I think should hurry up and die already. |

I can't say anything on behalf of other religions, but Buddhism shouldn't be here for 3 simple reasons:
1 - It's philosophy rather than a religion.
2 - it doesn't believe a in God that will save worshipful believers thanks to their faith (it doesn't believe in God, full stop). Instead, the belief is based on the idea that "what goes around, comes around".
3 - it's got no problems with other religions (or people with no religion) as long as their attitude is based on respect.
If Electromojo annoys you for some reason, then don't extend your anger to whatever is out of it, because you may end up being unfair ;)
(In case you're wondering, yes, he often annoys me too, but I admit it is my fault for not being able to accept him the way he is :)) |

Agreed, after I posted that I though that Buddhism shouldnt be on there, like Shinto, it dosnt seem to cause alot of problems (shinto mainly cause only Japan has a large number of them). |
And also taoism :)
Shinto is a tricky one, as it's got Gods but it doesn't come with a social codes: you can read more about it here. In fact, if you check their homepage, you'll see loads of info on other religions too (ah, the wonders of Google :D).

As for the animal point, I believe there is some evidence that penguins and some other species have gay sex for pleasure.

that still doesn't change my opinion on gays. their still dysfunctional humans for the fact that they can't do our main purpose as a species, breed.
I never said gays hate women, never said that at all. I said men, male human beings can't hate women. Gay men act more feminant then anything, and heterosexual mem just obviously need a woman to survive, to strive for our need of being content.
humans are kind of like a plague, we're all over the world and we're what pollutes and ravages our world. But it's all in some way for one purpose, our strive for evolution. by evolution, that can only be achieved by heterosexuals. Homosexuals are part of the negative factors in our evolution as a species. |

dude? wtf? when did i EVER bring in race mother ******. I'm asian, if anything I know how african-americans view the world more then any white man.
I had ADD as a child? i still use adderall as part of my treatment. Mental difficulties, like down syndrome? I can't hate. not anyone's fault(maybe except incest) they we're born that way, so what's there to hate.
Homosexuals choose to be gay, that's the real thing that I dislike. Chemical imbalance of estergin in their systems? something with them being too feminent? it's just what the hell. I can understand some reasons why they choose to be gay, but it just isn't quite logical in the sense of yourself contrary to being a human. |
