Most corrupt mother s on earth. At customer service they tell people signing up for the credit card that they need three signatures to verify the card. They dont tell them that the second two are services that charge 1 dollar per 100 spent and then sign you up for another hidden card. They also dont tell you that if you miss a payment it goes to 20% interest and if you miss another it goes to 30%.
We were told to attach to everything sold. To tell people that they wont be able to see their DVDs with an Svideo cable, or that you HAVE to have this certain thing to be able to integrate it with other items.
Selling people extended warranties that are 1/2 the cost of the product and then TOTALLY ING people who tried to use it. We used to regularly lose peoples who brought it in. Getting a laptop fixed? Oh , we lost it. Wanna buy another one?
UGH! No one ever ing go to Best Buy its so ing corrupt it hurts. the markups are insane. INSANE.

i made the mistake of buying a digicam there once. it was a nikon cam for about 400 also bought the warranty to as i thought a cam would need it. turns out it was messed up and i got lucky and they accepted the return for both the digicam and the warranty.
then i went to a real camera shop. |

| I am with you on this, Best Buy is the electronic playground for retards, do not go there for anything (NOTHING), they're warrantee system is absolutely garbage, and their customer service and sales representatives are in-util pricks who deserve to be slapped repeatedly with a moldy, fungoid-infested trout. God I despise that place, oh yeah, their good DVD's and video games are all expensive. Burn in hell Best Buy, burn in hell!! |

| yes i agree with you guys on the subject, but i think if your up to snuff on the things you want and the price is right, you should be okay purchasing at best buy. well at least the small things, but i'd never ever ever buy anything like a digicam or computer or anything that costs over maybe $120(cost of about a dvd player) from best buy (again). |

Ive been in sales for a while. I used to do shoes at Nordstrom. I used to do door to door for my little startup in highschool.
Then I went there. And I was awesome. I researched everything we sold, and then told people what they needed. I would say "other guys here will tell you X but honestly, all you need it Y" and people loved it. I had peopel who would only work with me, because I was the only honest person.
The computer section and digital imaging is the worst. there is no margin on the items, so the only rev is from PSP and accessories. You dont need . And these people are getting paid less than double digits usually for this kind of bull. Ironically, I took the ethics test they made us take and scored a 41% on it. Why? Because I answered everything as it happened in the store, not as to what they said SHOULD happen in the pre-test briefing.

You think that's bad, look up some stuff on Vector Marketing / Cutco Cutlery. Their entire business model is based on screwing their employees. It works something like this:
1) Advertise that you pay anywhere from 10-20 an hour for a job that requires no experience.
2) "Hire" a bunch of high school/college kids. I say "hire" because they bring you on as independent contractors, so you get all the responsibility and none of the employee rights.
3) Make it look as if they're currently swamped, which is why they're looking to hire so many people.
4) Make the interviews look as if they only accept a select few, then invite them back on separate days for group interviews...with different people they didn't meet before.
5) During the group interview, forget the whole interview process. Instead, show them your cutlery. Sell the cutlery to the students.
6) Before work can begin, first you make them sit through a training course on how to sell. At least that's what they say, except it's really just you thinking up all the places and people you could sell to, then thinking up some more, then thinking up even more, then phoning them and setting up appointments. See, they're not really swamped. You're just going to end up selling to the people you know.
7) Before you can go out and market the product, make them buy "sample kits." Don't make it look as if you're cheating them (after all, at that point they're paying YOU to work). Say you're giving them a 50% discount...75% discount...whatever it takes for them to swallow the jacked up price and give the manager some extra money.
8) Mention that instead of paying 10-20 per hour, they pay 10-20 per appointment.
9) Let them find out that appointments rarely take an hour, and oftentimes take longer.
10) Once they've exhausted all their possible leads, get rid of them and advertise for more openings.
It's THE most ed-up business model I've seen, with the exception of sweat-shops and slavery. I personally got up to step 8, minus the training portion, and the paying-the-manager-money-to-work portion. It just seemed so odd that they'd set up their business as such, making you pay for a sample kit, hiring loads of people in one go while renting a ty office, etc... Look it up on the net, there's so much out there on them. |
