i just read through some stories on bestbuysux.org, en aye, best buy just rips people new s.
i remember that time i returned that digicam, there was this asian dude that had a cart full of ps2's that he was trying to return. i'd say he had about 5 or 6 ps2s that he said he bought on the best buy site and this was around the time when they were still $300. for some 'unknown' reason they told him he couldn't return them, i dunno if he didn't have the receipt or what, but the lady helping was getting pissed as was the asian dude.
the manager finally comes over and tells the same to this guy. this guy goes ballistic and starts screaming. the manager then tells him i'm not going to help you since your screaming, have a nice day and walked away. |

Report Best Buy to the BBB (better business bureau).
gah too much alliteration there |

| Anyone know if the BBB works in Canada too, I have a right of mind to call the BBB on some other shoddy businesses. |

True story:
So about a month ago, I'm down at my friends house and we're partying, lanning, etc. We try to play a ps2 game we rented but his ps2 s out with the disc read error.
This was like 2 days before exactly 3 years after he purchased the ps2 at best buy. He thought he had a 3 year warranty, so he dug for it with hopes to find it and run over there real fast while there were 2 days left. Turns out, the warranty was only for 2 years, so it had been expired for 363 days. But we say " it, lets go try to exchange it anyways." If it didn't work, we could just crack her open and do the disc read error fix ourselves.
So, we get to best buy, approach the clerk and explain our situation and give him the warranty (not mentioning that it expired almost a year ago). So what happens? Not only does he take a quick look at the warranty, then give my friend a brand new ps2 no questions asked, he volunteers to give him $120 store credit, since when he purchased his ps2 it cost $320, and at they were only $199 then.

Another true story: Back when the GeForce4 was the world's most uber video card, Best Buy accidentally offered it for preorder for some incredibly low price like $120 (might have been $199). The card would have otherwise cost $400+. Many people ordered the card at this price before the error was fixed. These people had printed out receipts and everything for their legal purchase, and one person apparantly even called Best Buy's hotline to confirm the price before buying. Yet Best Buy refused to honor these sales.
In fact, one fellow went into a Best Buy not far from me with his receipt for the video card @ the cheap price trying to redeem his card. The owner of the store had him arrested for Fraud and Criminal Tresspass! |

My brother took his computer in to best buy for some upgrade or something. He left a computer game in the CD rom drive by mistake, and the ******s stole it.
Then they denied that they did.

| The only thing I ever buy from Best Buy is blank DVDs, when 100 packs go on sale for $100. Other than that, I use NewEgg and Costco to cover the rest of my electronics needs. |

You think that's bad, look up some stuff on Vector Marketing / Cutco Cutlery. Their entire business model is based on screwing their employees. It works something like this:
1) Advertise that you pay anywhere from 10-20 an hour for a job that requires no experience.
2) "Hire" a bunch of high school/college kids. I say "hire" because they bring you on as independent contractors, so you get all the responsibility and none of the employee rights.
3) Make it look as if they're currently swamped, which is why they're looking to hire so many people.
4) Make the interviews look as if they only accept a select few, then invite them back on separate days for group interviews...with different people they didn't meet before.
5) During the group interview, forget the whole interview process. Instead, show them your cutlery. Sell the cutlery to the students.
6) Before work can begin, first you make them sit through a training course on how to sell. At least that's what they say, except it's really just you thinking up all the places and people you could sell to, then thinking up some more, then thinking up even more, then phoning them and setting up appointments. See, they're not really swamped. You're just going to end up selling to the people you know.
7) Before you can go out and market the product, make them buy "sample kits." Don't make it look as if you're cheating them (after all, at that point they're paying YOU to work). Say you're giving them a 50% discount...75% discount...whatever it takes for them to swallow the jacked up price and give the manager some extra money.
8) Mention that instead of paying 10-20 per hour, they pay 10-20 per appointment.
9) Let them find out that appointments rarely take an hour, and oftentimes take longer.
10) Once they've exhausted all their possible leads, get rid of them and advertise for more openings.
It's THE most ed-up business model I've seen, with the exception of sweat-shops and slavery. I personally got up to step 8, minus the training portion, and the paying-the-manager-money-to-work portion. It just seemed so odd that they'd set up their business as such, making you pay for a sample kit, hiring loads of people in one go while renting a ty office, etc... Look it up on the net, there's so much out there on them. |
I actually have been accepted into the company. However, after reading some materials, I called them the same day and cancelled the employment.
Evil and unhuman stuff... |
