Not to single you out specifically because many others have the same misconception. Nor am I trying to convince anyone which DJ is better. But, PvD does not need to spin mp3s because he, like Tiesto and Armin, gets CD quality promos long before mp3 release groups get their hands on the tracks. That is not to say PvD has never done it because I know of one time he spun a friend's track on CD in NYC. I doubt PvD knew it was a mp3 however.
About the whole bassline thing... Where do I start with this one...
1. PvD's tracklist has more unedited tracks than edited, reworked, produced tracks combined.
2. Tiesto has trouble mixing his OWN tracks.
3. Tiesto fans saying mixing isn't all that important YET he bring up how "easy" it is for PvD to mix.
4. Having the same or different basslines does not really help mixing. DJs usually switch low frequencies when the bassline of the incoming track kicks in. The hardest thing to do is mixing in key. |

FS plays MP3, WAVE, AIFF, and CD audio.
EDIT:
I guess I should expand on that. Allows the user to have the feel of vinyl without having to carry vinyl. Basically, you have two special vinyl plates with timecode embedded on the vinyl. As the needle runs through that time code, it's transmitted to FS hub and then onto the laptop. Partnering with Native Instrument's Traktor, Traktor plays the audio file at the corresponding time code and sends that to the mixer. |

The only thing I was impressed with on Magik Music night was Sander! Tiesto was good, but I wasn't taken on any journeys other than the one up to the terrace. :D
Also, I hope the hardcore Tiesto backers aren't Oakenfold haters, because you could use that same diversity / mixing different styles with him. IMHO I put Oakey & Tiesto on the same level right now. |

yeah, but an MP3 is compressed and of lower quality... so it doesn't rock your chest cavity at space like something of CD quality. Those DJs have HUGE hard drives and a 10min MP3 that takes up 14MB takes up maybe 70 or 80MB. So yeah, mixing audio files but different than MP3. The criticism of MP3 is that they're downloading them, but obviously PvD, Tiesto, Armin, etc aren't hangin out on soulseek lookin for their new choons...
but we digress...
i have to say this because it wasn't finished properly earlier...

AvB is about as hot right now as Pat Sharp in a freezer. And Tiesto is the biggest farce to EDM since Puff Daddy.

hmmm... i'm half way there with you... you make a good point, but not the same level. I saw both during conference... tiesto isn't great, but oakey is one lazy sonofabitch. On numerous tracks he really waited till the very end where it was basically just bassline and mixed new in at very beginning with just bassline. Also, I've never seen anyone have to keep playin with the decks as much as oakey to try and get his beat matched. Time after time you could see him start to want to mix in, but lose it or some and have to start over. He also would pick the record up off one deck and put it on the another as if it would be easier using the other deck (maybe it was, i've just never seen anyone doing that there before). Ohhhh & tiesto plays better tracks too. |

I think both have the talent to mix well but due to whatever reason just plainly don't. At the end of the day, it's not about what you can do but what you have done. |
