thats about right, yeah.
At low levels it is a vasodilator, it opens up capilleries and increases blood flow. Its been linked to an increase in cognitive function due to the thinning of the blood brain barrier and the increased transport of oxygen.
however, at higher levels (more than 1-2 beers) it is a vaso constrictor. It STOPS blood from flowing and reduces oxygen transport.
Also, Alcohol is a solvent. Now at low levels, again, its good. It helps dissolve the fatty stuff in your veins and arteries. Moderate drinkers tend to have 14 times less of a chance of getting heart, kidney, liver, brain, and a variety of other organ diseases.
Drink too much and it starts ripping apart your brain and muscle fiber. A beer with dinner or lunch after working out would be great. REally get the blood flowing.
The final thing to remember is that your muscles are 70% water (whatever the exact % is doesnt really matter, its high like that). Alcohol is a diuretic. Which means it increases the urine flow. IE it pulls water out of your system and flushes it out. If youve ever eaten a protein bar and gone on a run, you know how bad protein sucks moisture from everything. You have hundreds of lbs of muscle, not 30g thats in a bar. it takes a LOT of water to keep you functioning properly. That being said, the max # of beers you should have a day while working out is two.
I tried to limit my binge drinking to 1 time every two weeks, but sometimes that didnt happen :P
now im just cutting it all out. Tea is helping hehe. |

| In Van I was pretty much keeping my drinking down to once every Friday, but binged because I had unlim bartab on that night. This would usually result in like 2000+ calories from beer followed by hangover next day, which would more or less ruin 5 days worth of cardio =P Hopefully in MTL now, without a bartab on Friday nights and not as much to do I can seriously cut back the alcohol. I didn't realize that 1 beer with dinner after my workout would actually help matters; I'll be sure to test that out =P |

Atkins is a sham. All those fad diets are complete bull. Don't take what they say at face value. |

Really eh, I lost 100 pounds doing the Atkins diet, and I'M NOT complaining. Personal experience will shatter anyone's attempt to sham the Atkin's diet from my world view. |

I have a personal trainer and he says LOW CARB is a NO NO, well at least atkins is wise... u can easily get osteoperosis (s/p?) as well other types of problems in the long run...
he says yes u do lose a lot of weight but its not all fat that you are losing.. he gave me an article from the Journal of Medicine for me to read.. ill have to scan it..
give this atkins trend a few more years before attempting it like any type of new fad diet... |
