hey is it true in Victoria, if you drive with one hand on the wheel and the other hangging out the window
you get fined??
G`Dave
My word it certainly is.. >$200.

Same reason you get fined for talking on a mobile when driving.. "Must have 2 hands on the wheel and full attention on the road at all times"... blah blah blah.

hahaha victorian coppers are tight as when they pull you over! especially if you're a P plater.

got my license, rego, plate, and car got given a thorough check last weekend when i got pulled over. breathalysed, checked for illegal mods, etc etc. no wonder ppl call them pigs! hahaha
G`Dave
I've got green neons with a sound modulator in my car.. left them on when the cops pulled my over once.. and while they didn't particularly like them they arn't illgal. (I thought they were, almost crapped myself).

Maybe they are only illegal if you can see them from outside the car.. you can distract yourself all you want.

I am glad I didn't have to go through all that crap in the states to get my license. (though I do think it is a good idea to have graduated licensing). I took my test on my 16th birthday, in an ice storm, and had no restrictions from then on. Of course that was a decade ago and they have changed things a lot since then. I guess kids under 18 cannot drive with more than one passenger now. Heh...we used to pack ten people into my friend's caddy all the time.

Good luck on whatever.

lucky I just missed out on that log book law, i remember if i failed my p's test the new law of the log book was due the week after my p's test so if i failed i would of been screwed/stuck with the book, pheew. Thank you lord :)

Hey no ing way i had the same thing, i got my P's about 3 days before the logbook kicked in so if id failed i would have had to do the whole 50 hours (cause u have to wait a week to do your test again).... lucky i didnt have to do the logbook i got my P's on 8 hours driving experience!!! :p

My license also expires in a month! Anyone know what the test is to get your full license is it just another hazard perception test(touch the screen when u should brake type test) or what??? :)
G`Dave
So far as I know (From my sister who got her's a couple of weeks ago (no.. no pics of sister)) You just get given it in the mail.. but this is Melbourne.. might be a little different up there.

But what's this about a log book. We get given a log book with the L's.. but they don't ask to see it when we go for licence. (Which is good cause if they checked they would want 120 Hours.. that's the figure they are always pushing, and I had only done about 100, about 40 of those in the last month.)

have a read of this page.

you have to pass a Driver Qualification Test (DQT) in NSW to get your full license.

in VIC, it is mailed out to you by VicRoads 3yrs after the day on which you passed the test to get your Ps.

in NSW, to be eligible for your P1s, you have to have atleast 50hrs of driving logged.
they are driving to bring this same condition into effect in VIC, but instead of 50hrs, it will be 120hrs.

i got my Ps about 3 months ago, with total driving hours at ~30hrs hahaa.

another thing i've noticed while having a gander through the RTA site is that in NSW, on your Ls, you're only allowed to travel at a max speed of 80 KM/h, and 90 KM/h on your P1s. in VIC, there is no such limitation on both our Ls and Ps. free to zoom zoom on the wide expansive freeways
G`Dave
If there were speed restrictions on P's in Victoria that would really suck.. I have to go 100 at least once to get anywhere.

But the conditions for getting a Licence in Victoria are:

Got L's and have held without cancelation for 6 months.
(You get it by providing ID, and doing a computer questionare)

Be atleast 18
(Then to get your P's you have to pass a practical driving test, and pass a computerised hazard perception test(which is a real bitch))

matt.h
VicRoads has recently changed the conditions, you now have to pass the Hazard Perception test first, before they allow you to take the practical driving exam. this was probably because so many people were failing the hazard perception test (like dave said, its a bitch! hahaha).
