Well myself and other p drivers received letters from the RTA stating about mouth wash etc. you might be lucky and cops let you off but it stated that you have to prove to the court on why you are over the limit of 0.00
so yes its more of wasting your bloody time but yeh... kind sux |

The breathalysers we have now work fine.. they can tell if you've been drinking..
The only reason I can think of for the government wanting more sensitive ones would be so they can book you for eating a tim tam and hence make a bit more money out of ya.
There's no reason I can think of other than that. But I'm a cynical prick who hates the state government. |

Its being introduced slowly, it was in channel 10 news. |
Yeah, wasn't it a breathaliser that would give out different colours in depending on the drugs you had taken and stuff?
very freaky! |

the ones purchased by the NSW police are more high-tech in the sense that it has in-built memory and satellite communications capabilities. this is to stop police from 'cheating', inflating the number of drivers they have breathalysed (to meet quotas, much like parking inspectors).
at the moment, its all recorded by hand, then (i assume) entered into the computer once they get back to the station. these new gizmos will record every test, what BAC was recorded, and allow the memory to be 'downloaded' for auditing.
can just imagine it now, coppers sitting in their cars blowing into it to falsify the data and meet their quota (2003 was 2 million tests i believe). |

OH THOSE...
Yeah those are drug testers. Previously there was no real way to test for drugs other than taking a blood test (unless you're totally off your trolley).. which they can't legally do for no reason (that's my understanding of it).
But now they can test for drugs with a breathalyser and it gives a colour depending on which drug is in your system. |

And the test for Green P's is the Hazard Perception Test
Test for Black Licence is Advanced Hazard Perception and more road rules, kinda like the L's test. So you need to learn your road rules again :p |
Ok then im on my Green P's (the cards still red, so how the was i supposed to know??? :p it says im on P2 so its all good!)
Im thinking i might just get an extension of the license - as im gonna be over in the uk for 2 years from january im not REALLY gonna need it am i??? Unless i can get a uk license straight from my aus one - anyone know what the deal is with this???? Hmmmmm...... :) |

If it's in Channel 10 news, it's either a) inaccurate or b) designed to scare you. Don't trust it :)
And I'm going to stir things up by saying P-platers are the most aggravating and poorly skilled drivers on the road  |

Untrue!!!!!! :whip: OMG how can you say that ... P platers are the most up to date drivers, especially now since the tests are so damm hard, how many freken times have you seen accident's when the people are NOT ON THEIR P's, are over 25 and are more accident prone, people who hog the right lane, everyone knows that the right lane is the fast lane, ur supposed to go faster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We stay at the speed level or just above it, not under it, especially in peak hour traffic, i make sure i get enough sleep cause my 15 min drive to work is crazy, you need the reflexes of a jedi if you want to drive in my area, if you make a mistake drivers around here chew u up and spit you out like an old foul tasting chewing gum!
Perfect example, my gf's sister last night was at a traffic light, stopped on red, when some FULL LICENCE PRICK just smashed behind her n ed up her 1 year old Nissan, wat was his excuse? "I thought the lights were about to change so i didn't stop cause she was going to go..."
FULL LICENCE PERSON SAYING THAT? Now come on fair play.. this is ridiculous... what about that total wank who drove into the childcare center n burned those little kids?
What about in Carlingford a few months back a FULL LICENCE driver lost control in a 50 ZONE!!! and almost took out 3 little kids coming back from the shops!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure P platers aren't the best drivers, but we all know that majority n minority politix always comes into play.
So watchu think bout daT sista! :P
Btw u stirred me up.. lol!
No feelings but thats uncalled for :P |

I'm not going to defend every full license driver out there, believe me I drive further than most people in an average week and I know how poor a lot of people's driving skills are.
But arguing that since there are a lot of accidents that don't involve P-platers and that therefore P-platers aren't worse drivers is completely false. If 5% of drivers on the road are on their Ps, then you would expect about 5% of people doing stupid things or having crashes to be P-platers. But it isn't 5%, it's more like 25%.
I'd estimate that of the people I see doing stupid things (and I see a lot of them), probably 1 in 4 is a P-plater. Likewise, probably 1 in 4-5 P-platers I encounter will do something stupid.
When you say P-platers are more up-to-date drivers, that may be (vaguely) true, but they're also the most inexperienced at dealing with unusual or atypical road conditions, and other drivers. Worse, since P-platers have just passed their test they think they're perfect drivers (after all you've just gotten perfect marks on the test), while their over-representation in crash statistics suggests otherwise.
Believe me, I was in the same position several years ago. The reality is, once you've learnt to pass your driving test you then start learning to actually drive.
And again, not having a go at you personally :) |

What webby says is absolutely correct. Thus why car insurance rates are the highest for drivers under the age of 25.
At least in australia you guys know who is new to driving and who is not by their license plates, here in the US you have no idea at all unless they have personalized plaes with their high school graduation year or something on them hehe.
Be glad you guys don't have to deal with snowstorms and freezing rain as well as all the other new things abotu driving. I had to take my test (which was easy because it is not too difficult to get a license in the US) in an ice storm. Boy was it fun.
