At this point, 7 pages of review in, I doubt there's anything unique left to say about this night. But I figure I'll chip in my 2 cents worth regardless.
The first and most significant thing to mention is how utterly blown away my expectations were. I went expecting the music to be only so-so. I'm not a big house-fan, and was going expecting some occasional nice prog and tribal, and a fair bit of cheesy vocal house - I like harder beats but I wanted to go through the full Danny experience after missing him more than once. Musically, he totally kicked my ass. I was there for 8 and 1/2 hours and the only times I wasn't dancing was when I was taking a desperately needed cooling-off break from the main room sauna. The programming was unbelievably smooth, and I can't recall any lengthy down points in the music. No matter which gear he'd moved into, whether it was the slower trippy tracks or the slamming tech house of the later hours, I was always ready to dance. Needless to say, I can't remember a single cheesy moment in the whole night/morning.
Overall it was an amazing time. I was fairly unimpressed with Boa my first time there in February, but I'd been told it had become much better. I was skeptical but I concede the error of my ways. The sound system (the one good point of my last time there) was better, if anything, the crowd was diverse and friendly, the vibe was nice, and the addition of the patio was a masterful touch. The one down point, of course, was the overwhelming heat; it was unpleasant walking back in from the patio and feeling the waves of hot, stuffy air roll over you from the first stair onwards.
Particularly memorable moments from the night:
- when Danny left the booth for his walkaround, especially when he first announced himself by flashing his lights in time to the music
- around 5.30-6 ish when he started dropping the really hard tribal and then tech house
- meeting Silke out on the patio (I'll say hi to Corbin/Toby if I ever meet him :) )
And of course, it's always being with friends that makes a night complete. It was great to see and dance with lots of people at Boa. The ones Allegory and I went with (you know who you are), and those we saw there - Max, Gavin, Tamara, Tara, James, Greg, Erika (wonderful to see you again...), Nat, Sarah. Nice to meet some new people, too.
Overall, 9.5/10. And I'm definitely going back to Boa sooner rather than later. |

3 days later and I can finally formulate a review. ;)
Firstly, thank you so much Rony, Carey and all involved at Boa - you guys outdid yourselves! Great staff, fantastic attitude, clean & crisp sound..... it was all perfect.
The music - just amazing, words cannot do DT justice. I adored the loooong, slow buildup..... then the teasing vocals, the shake-your-hips tribal beats, tech-y goodness, a few oldies thrown in for good measure and the indescribable remixes. Stunning, simply stunning.
The crowd was SO into it - friendly, talkative, up for anything and eager to hear the next tune. I was quite proud that so many people stuck around to the end and didn't show that "it's way too late, i've got to go home" attitude that seems to infect this town at times. Just wonderful being there til 2pm and thanking Danny in person and looking at everyone else's stunned/incredulous/awed faces!
Great to meet a few of you, I was hanging around tatgirl for quite a while and the introductions never ceased! Fantastic seeing everyone enjoying themselves immensely...... cause as amazing as this party would have been anywhere else, it's was the friendly & familiar faces that made this night/morning/afternoon a perfect 10 for me.
