Romp; Escee was referring to the rips available on the net.

The "warez" version you were asking of...

And I suggest the same as him, get the Reloaded release if you can cos it's the best quality available.

The BBC reports that thousands of illegal copies of the game are downloaded the weekend before the PC shooter finally hits stores.

Just days before the game was set to hit US stores, pirated versions of Doom 3 began to appear on peer-to-peer networks and newsgroups. While such occurrences are nothing new--illegal copies of games often appear before their release--the scale of the Doom 3 piracy is far wider than normal.

The BBC is reporting that thousands of copies of Doom 3 were downloaded over the weekend. At one point, the network's technology correspondent Alfred Hermida counted 50,000 peer-to-peer users downloading the 1.5 GB game--$2,749,500 worth of software at Doom 3's $54.99 sticker price. Other reports put the figure between 30,000 and 20,000--$1,649,700 and $1,099,800 of software, respectively.

Whichever figures are accurate, it is clear the piracy of Doom 3 is costing developer id Software and publisher Activision millions of dollars. However, it was unclear what steps the publisher was taking to stop the piracy, given that it had not commented as of press time.

haha!

Doom 3 has some serious problems: you move too slowly. its too dark. theres not enough ammo. the shotgun takes too long to reload. there are too many monsters. the game doesnt ship with extra special brown rubber safety underpants.

AvP had the advantage of stealing the aliens & predators from famous & scary films to help create a scary atmosphere, whereas doom does this with real creativity and intense atmosphere. the game, even on the crappy setting above, looks gorgeous and it really helps draw you in. everything else before now looks cartoonish and amateurish.
simply put, the game is incredible and measures up to all the hype. maybe im a lil girl, but it scared the crap out of me from the moment i got my first weapon. couldnt play it all night coz i wouldve kept my flatmates up from all the screaming i was doing.

the only criticism i would make was that sometimes things feel a little too scripted (thus predictable) yet even when you know whats going to happen this doesnt help ya from jumping like a mo-fo when the beasties jump out at ya.

on the above settings the game is as smooth as a 17yo princess. no problems at all, and everything still looks great.

PC powerplay reckons its the best single player FPS ever, and thus far, i certainly would have to agree. cant wait til 5pm so i can go home and load her up again.

Can't wait to LAN this on the weekend :D

Has anyone played online? It seems real laggy. Maybe a lot of people are running non-dedicated servers.

YEY!!!! I have a job now..

Which leads to money
Which leads to computer upgrade (among other things)
Which leads to much Doom 3 action.

Btw.. to anyone who wants to get the full experience out of the game and go multiplayer on LAN.
I strongly suggest you attend 'ExtremeLAN' Clearly the best LAN gathering Melbourne has to offer. (Sorry interstaters)
