| I like many others started off listening to cheesy n00b trance that most would deem crap when compared to productions of actual quality. However as for genres, I bounce back and forth. In the beginning I didn't really know what I liked and tried the Psi scene, Ambient, Hard, Prog, Epic etc... I pretty much listen to it all (although I don't really listen to Psi stuff that much anymore), but if there was only one genre for me it'd have to be the Epic stuff. Builds and climaxes just do it for me. It's hard to just stick to one category when genres are so blurry in the EDM scene. Especially when there is quality within so many of these scenes. |

| Personally, i don't really like prog. My tastes are still deeply rooted in melodic, uplifting, euphoric trance but i am slowly converting to a tech trance lover, i think. |

| Right now I love a mixture of ambient, melodic prog and darker more driving prog. |

| I don't see why it matters what one plays as long as you get good records for your style(s) and play in front of the right crowds. I don't understand all the elitism that every genre seems to have. Here in Denver Junglists and House Heads hate trance and think it is poorly produced music, when they probably got into the music listening to trance in the first place. Other trance fans don't like prog and think it sucks and is boring. I think all styles have good tracks, but some are fewer and farther between. |

I don't even consider that type of stuff progressive anymore. Just a deeper trance, maybe just "trance". |

| I would agree with G&D not being Progressive (stand alone), but it is deep somewhat progressive trance. To me progressive is sasha and digweed and Sander K and Max Graham. Hard for me to describe my definition of the genre, but you just hear it. I would never play Andain or Motorcycle in a prog set. I would play their unplugged mix of Dave Gahan - I need you, though, as it is more progressive. Fantastic strings too. |

| I agree with the original post. In fact that's how I would probably describe my development. Trance (besides the odd tune or two) simply lacks that emotional aura which it use to contain. Bring on the prog :) |

well I also started with really really cheesy trance
music but now I like to listen to all kinds of
EDM(but no cheese). I think that the music is about
just one thing: DANCING! It's called electronic DANCE music
and not electronic sleep music. Everyone who ever has heard
Progressive in a club knows that you can dance in good to
Prog. It's whole other thing to dance to Uplifting Trance(which I also
loooooove...).:) |

My first edm show was Sasha & Digweed @ Twilo March 2000. Didn't like it much but loved trance. |
