I'd have to agree with Diginut on this one.

Canadians are quick to criticize America and their evil deeds to their homelands from Canada. Hence, since they don't experience anything first hand, the majority of the people in this country are basing their opinions from the media.

People whine about America "sticking their nose in other people's business" but when a country is in need, the first country they seek for monetary and military assistance is the USA.

I'm not saying the USA doesn't have a bad track record, and I'm definitely not saying that Bush is a saint, but everyone seems to base their opinion of America on a few bad leaders. The media emphasizes the evil doings of a few political figures - so everyone, in the safety net that is Canada - establishes a negative view of America. Well, political figures of the USA are about .00000001% of the population. America has it's good aspects and has helped the world in many ways.

Prime example; the very reason we are able to communicate through this forum is directly due to America's invention of Windows, the internet, etc.

people base their opinions on media everywhere... you think the Americans dont with their mostly right-wing tv stations and papers... also the point is not that Canadians or the resot fo the world criticize the States... it is that Bush claims a lot of things that he doesnt back up with facts

theres a difference between being asked and imposing its own will on others... the US has the right to refuse giving help if they want to... but you cant refuse being taken over by the US

My point is that of irony! "America" has an internationally reknown negative connotation for "bad", "evil", "corrupt" etc. When really, the majority of us seem to forget that we are dependant and fully utilize American technology everyday.

And haha, yes, a lot of countries have inventions, I'll admit. However, few effect, and better yet, make my quality of life better as America's do.

Yes, but what I'm saying is that the majority people who hate America, hate ALL of america. They hate the people from America, what it stands for, everything related to it basically. But yet, ironically, they boot up their computer to a Windows operating system.

What I'm saying is people loathe America without realizing the benefits of the country as well.

one wonders; in a perfect world, the dominating powers set examples of idiealism and freedom. The most powerful nations in the world should be leading by example. How can you point fingers at other regimes when there is a great deal of wrongs to right in your own super powerful country.

Well the fact that they created a lot of their own problems for themselves that now came back and bit them in the ass is absolutely correct...however...as Canadians we are COMPLETELY dependent on the US both financially and for defence purposes...I don't think it's correct and appropriate for Canadians (as we pride ourselves for being nice and accepting and etc...) to constantly laugh and make fun of the US. No offence but the reason why Canada has no military IS because of the US, and if we are at least "pretending" to be friends then we should at least "pretend" to act like ones...They had a horrible tragedy, in which Canadians lost their lives as well, and yet we keep ignoring that for some reason.

As my management prof said, "when America coughs, Canada catches a cold." ;)

In addition to my earlier arguments:

When you ask someone "what do you think of America?" you will usually get a response like " I hate it!"
The point I'm trying to make is that people should be responding " I don't like some of America's clandestine operations, and some of their political figures seem corrupt, but the country has its good aspects as well"
Feed the positive, starve the negative.
