Some of the best comedians in the world are actually very astute social commentators. They have to be, to find the humourous in the everyday things that most of us overlook. George Carlin and Chris Rock are just a few examples. But I digress...

I agree...Margaret Cho, Al Franken, Dennis Miller (although he's gone crazy lately), etc.

take a poll then...see how many people on this board actively listen to hip hop and rap...and please include ages...cause I bet it will be the younger members too who probably listened to hip hop and rap before EDM anyway ;)

P Diddy is a "legend"??? Give me a *#@$! break...he's a very astute businessman and producer, no question, but I reserve terms like "legend" for people who will be remembered and talked about long after their careers end...Bob Marley, Public Enemy, Oakenfold, etc. P Diddy is no "legend"...but the people who think so probably see at Tupac as having been a "prophet", I suppose

Angelgirl, I'm with ya...give me old school hip hop and rap over today's (mostly) garbage anyday. Face it...when Eminem and 50 cent are carrying your scene, it's in trouble ;) Sure there's the underground scene, but that's another story. Every genre has it's underground scene that does it's own thing. Ask any of the intelligent rappers, speaking of things OTHER than violence, bitches and money and see where they rank on the charts. I have great respect for several hip hop and rap artists...but little respect for the general mainstream scene itself and the images it often embraces and projects...

I don't like offensive lyrics...and not just random offensive lyrics cause those are okay...but when it's personally directed and so violent, it doesnt sit well with me. I guess that's why I never liked Eminem.

I agree...I never said he wasn't talented...in fact, I think he's got an interseting style, great flow, etc...his material is not what I'd call "brilliant" though.

Give K-OS a listen (if you already have not done so) and tell me if you still think Eminem is *that* good ;)

P. Diddy is the worst rapper, I'd boo him off anywhere

i do think that eminem is THAT good. the violent lyrics and such dont bother me a bit, i guess im just desensitized.

but i think he makes very good points in an unconvential way, the same way a comediam makes a good point by making jokes.

In my opinion Eminem is a very good battle emcee, who freesytles well, and has good flow when he spits. I Wouldn't say he's the greatest of all time, but he's an above average rapper, and defiantely a lyricist as well.

Love him or hate him, you can't deny the man has skills.

And now we are going to honour such role models and hope our scholarship worthy kids qualify for this...

I like that Nelly is giving back to the community but PIMP scholarship...could they not come up with something less predictable.
