I like that Nelly is giving back to the community but PIMP scholarship...could they not come up with something less predictable.

only thing i can really add is that P. Diddy is a legend (or will be) and will be talked about for years.. thats all.

This thread is amusing but not surprising. The people who pay big bucks to go to Ibiza should be protected from the mindless cheese of today’s Hip Pop. As for PD being legend – maybe, but not in the music industry. He may be remembered as fashion Ikon

For the record, the only Hip Hop production outfit that I stil listen to are the Beastie Boys.

K-OS is great! I'm really diggin his jazzy tune Crabbuckit and I liked that old rascalz tune ft K-OS "around the world".

never really liked puff daddy or his music. he's a very flashy guy with his clothing line and all that crap.

those who think hip hop is to blame for violence need to think a little more realistically. Just because a handful of listeners commit crime doesn't mean they all do. not all paul martin voters are thieves, not all harper voters post political threads on TOTA, not all tranceaddicts pop pills.

nobody said that every rap song is... all this thread bascially states is that some rap, I repeat, only some rap music does have a negetive effect on some individuals of society as might EDM in "some way" promote the use of ecstacy and other drugs. (i know Im going to get into trouble for that one...)

I know what you're saying but i think the problem lies more in the listeners than the artists. some people are just messed up regardless of what they listen to.

some edm songs do promote drug use. As the rush comes is about the feeling when E takes into effect.

eminem should be jailed for life!:whip:

its not like he is going out on the street and saying "hey kids, look at me beat up this women"

he is releasing his songs in a controled manner, through stores, where you have a choice to buy the album or not. there are warnings on the albums.

remember, what he raps about, its not the truth, its a story to make a point.

and if you believe that Em is the cause of kids being exposed to violence, get real. What cartoons did you watch as a kid? every one of them has violence in it. Every cartoon has a conflict, which is usually resolved with some sort of battle/violence. Yes its fantasy, and therefore we know its not real, but so is his music, Eminem always states that in his interviews. he says stuff just to get a rise out of people. Think outside the box buddy, and stop listening to the media.

Do you honestly think so? What are they going to say about him..."nice clothes"? "oh yeah, he did J-Lo"? lol

No offense intended, but how old are you? How long have you followed hip hop and rap? Do you really consider him anywhere *near* as influential as people like Public Enemy, NWA, MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, Tribe Called Quest, Dre, Snoop, Beatie Boys, KRS-One, etc?

Unlike most people on that list, P Diddy's popularity revolves more around things unrelated to being a hip hop or rap artist (fashion, J-Lo, names changes, production, etc). He's immensely popular, no question...but a "legend"? um...no.

Find me a respected top 10 list (or top 20 or 30?) that includes P. Diddy as an artist...good luck! :D

^^^ keep the argument consistant. DRE has been regarded as a legend, not cause of his lyrics, but because of his production! He helped to make NWA, snoop and west coast.

Diddy helped to do the same with the East coast of rappers. good production is an important to rap.

i dont think anybody on this board is defending his lyrics. lets face it they stink! and for the longest time he didn even write them. but he did help to establish a lot of talent with his productions. thats why i say he should be respected. definalty not cause of his rapping.

btw...isnt an artist someone who expresses emotion/feeling through something they made which can be experienced by one of the 5 senses?

Anyone who consider Puffy a legand doesn't know squat about Hip Hop. Puffy is an example of a commerically succesfull business man. Like Master P, he built something and made a name for himself, while earning tonnes of money by signing good talent to his label. That's his accomplishment. He was able to get the right people to work for him, and made money off them -- and for them. A legand ? Not by a long shot. People don't remember the rich execs that made money off the hard work of artists. They remember the artists themselves, because it's the music that stands the test of time.

The only thing puffy's gonna be remembered for is, that wack dance of his...and his sense of dressing -- which i have to admit, itsn't half bad.
