I don't think he didn't know the definition of sovereignity, I think he just didn't know what it meant in the context of "tribal sovereignity." To be perfectly honest, I'm not entirely sure what the question meant either. What tribes!?

His answer sucked despite that, it would have made more sense to ask the reporter to elaborate or ask him a more specific question.

I'm sure GWB knows what sovereign means.

hahaha!! sure? what makes you so suure??

what tribes??? ... u can't be serious?!?!?

wake up!! the guy's brain is about as empty as homer simpsons!!!

for the record, TRIBES:
Native Americans (also Indians, American Indians, First Nations, Alaskan Natives, Red Indians, or Indigenous Peoples of America) are the indigenous inhabitants of Americas prior to the European colonization, and their modern descendants. This term comprises a large number of distinct tribes, states, and ethnic groups, many of them still enduring as political communities.

In some countries, such as the United States of America and India, tribes are Indigenous peoples that have been granted legal recognition and limited autonomy by the state. ...

So can everyone in this thread honestly say that they immediately knew that "tribal sovereignity" referred to the limited autonomy of selected groups of Native Americans, without having to think about it for a few minutes?

I had no clue what it meant, and I read quite a bit of politics. I guess I must be stupid then. Or maybe it's just that the topic has never been brought up to me in conversation because it's never been a particularly "hot button" issue.

What if I asked you how you felt about Designer Tribalism? Can you answer that off the top of your head?

If I had to guess what Designer Tribalism was I'd have to say a people wanting to segregate themselves using sovereignity as a sheild and war cry.
But to me, there's a thin line between what sovereignity really is and how some people distort it's true meaning.
Examples? FLQ and Apartheid.
What's with the love for wanting to keep past traditions in a box other than self-preservation?
It's all very narcissistic in what is now a Global community...

Not bad for being "educated" at two of the best colleges in the world.

Another lame attempt by right wingers trying to defend this moron who has supposedly attended two of the best universitys in the country.

Why cant you just PLAINLY see that this man is an IDIOT. If i was asked that question, and tried to answer it without knowing, at least i would know how to fake an answer so it would be vague.

Im not surprised though.. half of the idiots living in the United states that beleived his lies for going to war are the same morons that will do anything to defend this man even when he as the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES should be educated and aware of the subject of Tribal Sovereignty at hand yet doesnt even know what the hes talking about

DigiNut
I'm not defending his intelligence at all - he's clearly not a member of the Einstein bloodline. All I said was that people were making this into a bigger deal than it really is. Many many people in politics have done worse, including almost ALL recent Canadian PMs. Bush is not too smart, but politicians in general aren't too smart.

I don't see how his "two universities" have anything to do with it either. Universities offer thousands of different classes, there's no particular reason to assume that "tribal sovereignity" is something that was discussed in any of the ones he took.

And you really need to stop casually referring to Bush's "lies for going to war" as if it were fact. There has never been any evidence to support this assertion.

Heis the most powerful man on this planet. He SHOULD be able to at least know how to DISCUSS issues regarding even his own people. He SHOULD know how to publicly speak and articulately phrase his sentences.

That is his job.

Whats even more sad is the fact that he didnt even know about the issue rather than the way he answered it.

I dont get it... he proclaims there is "undeniable proof" that WMD exist and he will show the world this.. yet not ONE weapon was found except an expired tank of Sarin gas.

If i went into a bank and told the tellers that someone was going to rob the bank and I had "undeniable proof" that it was going to happen.. yet the robbers didnt show up and i didnt have proof of any of this happening.. i dont think the authorities would be too happy. And this is just a bank... Bush INVADED a country based on lies.

He is either mentally retarded / schizophrenic for making such a HUGE claim... or he lied to the world becuase he was in a position of power after 9/11
