Back From IBIZA: Oakenjoke / Perfecto Closing Party Review

We randomly & spontaneously wound up at Pacha 9-11. We hadn't planned on goin clubbing that evening for obvious reasons. We walked into vip at 3:30 as Oakie was opening with the theme from Gladiator. It was overly dramatic & drawn out. He played a couple of tribal tunes then dropped Rapture. He played Dooms Night(Timo Maas remix)  (yawn) then U2's -Where the streets have no names(orignal, not a remix). The Europeans went beserk, singing along. Then a very akward choppy mix into that hybrid 'Ubik/Hide U' white label. He played an oldie but goodie Amoeba Assassin- Piledriver (Andy's Grayed out summer mix):D. I was very content I neva heard that out before. Played Huge Ibiza tune Xpress 2- Smoke Machine. He was predictably weak, mediocre track selection. I had hoped & expected a better set considering it was a CLOSING PARTY IN IBIZA! I was NOT impressed, it was downright boring at times.
Daniele Davoli came on at 5:30 & closed it out. He was MUCH better. He played Urban Train, Sonorous- Glass Garden :D, Radiohead- Everything in its right place(Hybrid remix), Ibiza Anthem Chemical Brothers- Africa, Utah Saints- Lost Vagueness (Oliver lieb remix) Felix Da House Cat- Silver Screen Shower Scene, Ogenki Clinic- First Light :D, 3 drives on Vinyl- Sunset in Ibiza.
My argument still stands that Oakie is overrated. 27 Days in Ibiza I saw/heard practically every DJ excluding Tiesto & AVB. :( John 00 Flemming & Picotto played the best sets. |

Oh Help she's back :p :p :p
Still not liking Oakenfold i see TG lol
I wish Oakenfold would bring his set's up to date now, for the general public he is getting weak, makes a change for me to agree with you TG lol but i heard him do a half hour set for Pete Tong's show on radio 1 a few weeks back and it was bloody amazing, all new stuff, tribal and progressive and i was thinking Man Oakenfold is back ! but he lets himself down when out on tour.
I still like Oakenfold, but i am hoping he starts spinning some more stuff like he did on Tong's show . . .
Peace :)

| I dont know where you guys get off putting OAkenfold down. He is one of the pioneers of this genre of music. If it wasnt for Oakenfold Trance wouldn't be what it is today. And just beacause you may not like some of his selectoins dosent make him a bad Dj.He has his own style and these newbie canyravers keep on putting him down because he dosent play that circus trance that they tend to like.Ive seen Oakenfold live many times and i've never been dissappointed. |

| Hmm, "Oakenjoke"??? Not very big or not very clever plus it doesn't even sound one bit like "Oakenfold". "Jokenfold" sounds a lot closer to "Oakenfold"! |

Yeah I expect Oakenfold bashing to increase ___% now...ugh. Its great that you went to Ibiza, but whether its Ibiza or not, I still maintain if you dont like a DJ, dont go, miss that set, or at least review someone you thought was good/talented/interesting. Oakie may pick old songs, mix horrible, or whatever. You obviously hate him, so why waste your energy? thats my thots...
oh and Utah Saints reminded me of this...people profess to hate Oakie and love Tiesto, but Tiesto's newish live sets Club Eau Two Years and Radio One 9-9-01 have some very similar song selections to Oakies Travelling disc. I know the presentation is different or whatever, but you seem to be reviewing song selection, and you DID say the crowd was going crazy. And even if it was for a non-trance U2 track, if he was working the crowd and they were having fun, you seem to be in a minority or something. Plus all the Twilo and TA over here cannot expose you to the massive amounts of electronic other music they have over there, so the whole experience thing seems a little shifted in their favor...late/ |

Stop living in the past. He used to be good back in the day. Playing the same uninspiring & unimaginative stale 2 hour set in America makes him a bad DJ. Generally most Oakie fans are newbies. |

| Hate is a very strong word. Like I said I wasn't planning on going clubbing that evening & certainly not paying $40 to see Oakie. I only went cause I was comped. I went to Pacha in jeans in flip flops it was very spontaneous but whatever. I have to admit I was quite curious to hear Oakie again b/c I hadn't heard him in a year.
The crowd in ibiza is not an educated trainspotting crowd. They'll dance to anything...they clap off beat! Ibiza is bout partying not the music.
My opinion & this thread is not useless b/c many TA's (oakie fans) want closing party reviews. |

yea, when i saw him a few years back, not only was the set boring, but he was totally drunk, acting like he was god, and ed up the mix several times. woop de doo. i have zero desire to see him again. |

Isn't it ironic that someone makes 65million dollars US for mixing mostly other people's work?
But that applies to all DJ's... |

So, what's your point?
To retire all dj's? |
