No, I don't know what the "odds of life on Earth are." I'd be happy to hear them, though, given that it would obviously be a major scientific breakthrough if you were able to account for every possible variable to calculate the precise probability that life would exist on Earth. As an aside, there are plenty of determinists who would tell you that the chance is 100%.
No matter what state the universe is in, there is, by your logic, an "infinitesmily small" chance that it would be in that state. So no matter how the universe happens to be configured, such a profound coincidence must occur. Somehow, it doesn't seem so supernatural once you realize that it's logically necessary. |
There was a scientific study that accounted for, at least, a large amount of variables, including temperature, distance from the sun, etc. I sure wish I had the data to give you, but I know that it was less than 1 in 10 to the thirtieth power. Either way, I'm confident in my beliefs and don't feel the need to answer to you. I only answer to one authority, and, in the end, one of us is right and the other wrong. If you're right, I have nothing to worry about. If I'm right, you have a lot to worry about. |

| That's the problem with the political forum and people on the forums as well. The evolutionists think with their crap reasoning on their flawed arguments is right. The law of logic states that no two seperate things can be right at the same time, so either we are both wrong or one of us is right. I will say that if the Christians are right in the end, a lot of people have a lot to worry about. I'm tired of being told that holding off from sex till marriage is wrong by many people on this board. Who made them the judge, the jury and the executioner, I do enjoy the diverse opinions on these board and the ability to interact with them. |

| hey andy...can i ask you a serious question? what about premarital sex is wrong in the christian viewpoint? is it that sex is something that should be shared between to people that have been blessed by the church or does it have something to do with sex being wrong aka original sin and that should only happen for procreation and not pleasure? |

In the Christian viewpoint, sex is good under the right circumstances. Genesis 2:24 says "For This Reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and they will become one flesh". Later in the Bible, it says no sex before marriage but it comes down to; do you believe the Bible or not. Most people think that Christians are pathetic in waiting for marriage but most of us don't have a problem with it. See being a Christian is not just a belief, it is a way of life and the Bible is a guide for life. Most of the world tends to attack us and say c'mon everyone is doing it, why not you and I've always said if everyone is doing it then I should not be doing it. The world says do it if it feels good and in my view, it gets you nowhere. You still have the same people getting drunk, getting high, getting laid in an attempt to fill this hole (or what we are missing for full happiness). As long as I've been a Christian, that hole has been filled, I can't explain it. I find it funny that people say Bible or Christian and people immediately become defensive. I'm not trying to convert anyone, if someone wants to ask me questions, I'll try my best to answer them and if I can't, I'll go find someone who can.
Now to the sex before marriage, I've seen many people close to me try this and end up with more problems than fun. You may not see the problems now but they eventually becomes apparant. The way that I look at it Jason, I'm not going away, I'm not running from the discussion and I'm not changing my views. UWM, you and others can't be like me, a virgin but I can get laid and be like you. I'm proud of the fact that I've lasted nearly 23.5 years and I'll wait till I get married. I don't get why people have to attack me for my stand, I'm not hurting anyone with this decision. |

i just wanted to point out a couple of things based on what you said...
first, you say that you feel special because you've been able to wait up until this part of your life. That's cool, but if those of us that have slept with people did so because we actually loved those people...does that mean that we are wrong in doing so? I don't have any regrets about any of the women that i've slept with, sure i'm not married to them, but was having sex with them still not everything that it would have been if we had been married? i suppose the only difference would be that you would only be with one person if you waited until marriage and perhaps that is the significant thing.
with that said...would you ever marry a woman who was not a virgin? i mean, even if she was a christian and shared the same moral foundation that you do, but she wasn't a virgin...does that automatically disqualify her? what if she had gotten a divorce or something? then would it still be ok to marry a woman that was not a virgin given she waited until marriage?
also i just wanted to say that you seem to think that we all have holes in our lives that we are trying to fill with such things as sex, drugs, whatever. I was just kinda curious since you have religion to fill that void for you in your life...why do you seem like such a bitter person from time to time? is this not the real andy or do you also actually have holes in your life which you are in need of filling?
once again...i'm not trying to belittle your religion or anything...just trying to make sense of it... |
