I might have agreed with you before the last time I saw him wrecking like crazy. Tiesto is very flawed, but have you seen Armin wreck often. And if so, I know you can't say you've heard Digweed wreck often at all, but he's not really in the same genre. It kind of sucks, but it seems like almost all of the trance dj's are jokers. PVD is more technically sound, but his programming has begun to suck. You guys may not agree, but many do. I certainly haven't heard him mixing up styles much during his sets. Maybe a breaks track here and there, but it's trancy anyway. I don't know, I just think more could be done. I think Politics is probably the best mix cd ever made. It has a wide variety of music and styles and tempos. Everything I've seen live since then pales in comparison. |
well i dont know how hard paul throws it down in denver, come see him in nyc... |

I don't get why people are so stubborn with one format. Who cares if you play over different formats...in the end, isn't it about the music? I use both vinyl and cd, and if I could, I'd try my hand at Ableton Live while mixing in vinyl or cd.
For you vinyl purists out there, are you going to dog James Zabiela because he mixes off of CDJ1000s? Last time I heard him, he kicked ass with his insane scratching skills on the CDJs. |
Does Zabiela play mp3's? |

You see. I understand liking PVD. He used to be my favorite dj too. I still like him, but I feel like the more time goes by, the more generic his djing and production seem to be. Don't get me wrong, I've bought a lot of his newer productions. They are very catchy. They just don't seem to have the endurance of some of his older work. I get bored of them, because they are formulaic. You can't miss a PVD track now. Since OTAB the songs all sound too familiar. I would like to see him innovate more like a Sasha. Maybe it's an unfair expectation for me to have, but I feel like he is not as good as he used to be. It's probably because Politics gave me a ridiculous level of expectation for him. That is one of the most brilliant combinations of production, re-mixing and djing ever. It sometimes seems to me like you can't see any flaws in him. I just wish you'd admit, at least, that he's not as unique as he used to be. |

Sasha has put out 1 artist album, how could his style change? He had help on all(i think) of the tracks on ADD and they all have the same synths... I bought involver, definately not even close to gu 9/13. Digweed/Tiesto Don't produce on their own either, put that into the equation. |

I wouldn't mind, but I've also seen him play Space in Miami for WMC and I left the room to go listen to Icey and AK1200 (hardly liked jungle/dnb when I went there). He played a few really good tracks but it was all the same energy level. If you like sets that pump all night and don't have energy variance, that's fine, but I feel like you almost might as well be watching George Acosta. Sure that's a little unfair, because PVD is way better than George, but I like a set to build and drop, at least a little bit. Tiesto may be garbage technically, but he has programming down to a t. |

Right, it's not close to GU 13. Nor is ADD. As time has passed he has brought new and different sounds to the table. What else do you know of that sounds like ADD? Even if you don't like all that he has done, you have to admit that he innovates and brings new things to the table all of the time. And as far as ADD all being the same, he goes from chill ambient flowing tracks to Nuskool type breaks like Bloodluck or fundamental (I always confuse these two as they are flipsides of each other). And Involver is a completely different breed of progressive. I'm just saying PVD has tapered off in his production. He relies too much on the same bassline and same melody sounds. Even his breaks can easily be attributed to him without knowing who produced them when you listen to them. |

The energy for 6 hours is why i love pvd, and why imo he is soo much better then every other dj. He normally varries high energy tracks with classics in the middle. |

To each his own, I guess. I'm not telling you you're wrong either. It's an issue of taste. Not good or bad, wrong or right, just different. I find it monotonous, but we all like different things. I enjoy discussing it, either way. |

I think there are two arguments going on in this thread. The first one being vinyl versus everything else, and the second one being whether or not to play mp3s.
So to answer your question, technically Zabiela can't play mp3s because CDJs can't read mp3 format. You'd have to convert the mp3 to wav and burn onto a cd.
But like I said, who cares even if he does play mp3s. It's just a medium music is on. The only issue in this discussion is really the legality of downloading music. |

i enjoy ADD and think its a great cd, but the same synths are used throught it. I don't think he innovates all the time, maby im missing it. What has he innovated?
Paul has no time to sit down and actually produce. Ive never seen him take more then 2 weeks off for the past few years. And im sure he doesn't take that time to produce. Most of his stuff is done probably on his labtop when he is on the road. So it is really hard to put out high quality productions. |

I've seen pvd both in nyc and WMC...his sound is similar most of the time. He'll go through trance phases in his set, then go to really hard techno-y stuff, and then come back to trance. For those crazy 6 hour sets, he'll kick up the bpm in the 4th or 5th hour. |

26 pages on vinyl vs cd...so there is no need to discuss it here....
what do you actually get from converting mp3 to wav??? LOL
wav & vinyl are far supperior sound quality over mp3, so that is why dj's shouldn't use mp3. |
