I'm sure trance will just get swallowed by pop - it's the inevitability of things. :( |

Yeah you may be right. History repeats itself, or so they say.
It seems like music today is influenced by music from the past (and not just trance or EDM, but rock, pop, country, rap etc...)
its nothing big or phenomenal, but just little loops or samples in songs that remind you of past tracks.
The way I see it, producers are probably going to say "Hey remember back in early 1992 when the awesome acid riff really tore dancefloors up?" or something similarily cheesy... and then they'll pay homage to that sound, but incorporating new synths or hooks in it...
Well, maybe not acid, but I bet it's going to be a throwback to the old 808 or 909. |

I don't think it's going to be 808/909 related, as producers today are still using them (and never really stopped) and their sound, while unique, has been overused to the point that it's now expected to be heard in dance music.
So new trends with 808/909? Definitely not. Continued use of the old drum machines? Definitely.

Well maybe not the 808 or 909 (those two machines just popped in my head as I writing my previous post)
I guess just whatever archaic drum machine whatever makes the cool syrupy acidy basslines...
Which reminds me, anyone ever heard of this one-man band named Cornelius? he basically took a bunch of ancient and old drum machines and electronic music making machines from the 70s and 80s and created some kitshy , lo fi electronic-boogie rock.
pretty catchy stuff, i have his album Fantasma, but I don't know if has anything else out. |

| There's going to be a bit of a glitch type explosion I think. It's creeping into progressive house, breakbeat etc. (although many "electronic" artists have been doing it for years) and it will creep into trance and house before long. In the not too distant future you will hear it in pop music (snippets of it can already be heard in Jentina productions). Like every other type of sound it will eventually become passe and we will all die!!:tongue3 |

| EDM is starting to rely more and more on new technologies available to the DJ. So I think that the future of EDM will depend on what new inventions come out...like James Zabiela's DVDJ which I saw in action at the Plasa Show in London and was totally awesome! Also more use of MIDI + in clubs. As for the style of music, it being pretty rare to come across new and truly original genres in EDM nowadays, me believes that multiple genre fusion is the way. |

recent trends that ive taken notice of:
*male vocals
*80s artists reviving by the electronica route
*more and more fusion/hybrid of different genres & subgenres. mainly psy, electro & breakbeat being incorporated into house (prog) music. making the music louder and noisier but at the same time, ambiguous sounding.
i hope to god acid doesnt make a comeback. ive never been a big acid fan. :nervous: i wish artists would find a style or even reinvent themselves rather than use samples and styles from the past fusing it w/ the future. i think thats what first drew me into the electronica scene. its inovating ground breaking sound. now it seems like the scene is regressing back into the past and at the same time becoming more "mainstream" for the better or for the worse. |
