i hope for an acid house revival aswell, but not one focusing on the same sounds of the past, just the vibe.
i really love the efforts josh wink is putting into this revival, and his album this year was the best piece of music for the entire year imo, i'm also trying to follow in his footsteps, but i'm still a few steps behind the sound im trying to get to.
anyways, what i think will be the next trend in edm is not a genre, i believe all the genres are going through their own evolutions atm, and i dont see a shift in what's the mainstream edm genre (electro breaks, for those of you who have been living in a cave for the past year and believe it to be the *next* trend :rolleyes: )
i think the next trend is the liveact, i think more and more dj's/producers are gonna get geared up for live PA |

There is nothing as true as that! Really, it dominates every radiostation. Here in Holland we even have big R&B-raves (Ambassador, Urban Nation) now! How stoopid is that?! And don't forget all those rappers also wear so much jewelry they almost break their necks, talking about f*cking their ho's in the ghetto, yo,yo,yo and that it's totally uninspired music.... |

My prediction: More of the same genre-wise, except for two things.
One - they'll use more sophisticated chord progressions and get rid of the dead, dull aspects of the sound. Both of which they're slowly starting to do now, especially in psy.
Two - more guitar samples, guitar references and guitar-like sounds. This is a guitar decade, and no popular music is entirely independent of the era it came from. With exceptions.
Things I'd like to see: Parts played live, so the loops don't just sit for 24 bars *cough* *prog!* Also, an acid comeback sounds good. And live vocals! What, a DJ can tour but a singer can't?? Come on. |

More live sort of stuff. You know "djs" doing more than playing records, and im not talking about more copies of James Zabiela. I mean midi controllers, abelton live etc. Its probably been done, but if i were to try to make djing exciting, i would just use cdjs and turntables to get the beats, and play the synth line, or whatever melody live, or something like that i guess.
Djing really has to change. Alot. |
