instead of banning pop and chips, the ontario governemnt can do better. they should make all the students wear uniform, and teachers should be allowed to hit the student if they mis behave. just like countries in asia.

I didnt mean to offend you and the rest of your age group.

You know what I say, next TOTA party, we have a massive game of RED ASS to declare who is the winner of this debate.

This shows your capacity for mature discussion :) I point out your lack of respect for what kids are capable of, and you resort to personal attacks. Which would be fine really, I can handle a good rib here and there, especialy when I left an opening like that, if you'd had anything relevant to add to the conversation at all, which you didn't (don't). In fact, your debating ability seems to be equal to, or less than that of some of the elementary kids you have such a lack of respect for.

I grew up with chips and gravy and pop in my school. Am I any worse for it today? Nope. Kids in the 50s and 60s had access to these things. Are they any worse today? Nope. Perhaps they should focus on the real reason for obesity.

Whats the real reason for obesity? Poor planning that forces everyone to drive cars everywhere. The internet which keeps people like us indoors much more than in the past. Snack sizes which are much bigger than in the past. If they really wanted to do something democratic they would ask that the portion sizes of the "junk snacks" be limited to regular sizes instead of the "jumbo value sizes" that exist now.

But addressing the real reasons for this country's growing waist line would be too difficult so why not take the easy way out right? The only people who will benefit are the guys who own variety stores and pizza parlours next to the schools.

Sadly this is the same mentality of wimpery that took out all the jungle gyms and cool playgrounds from the schools and replaced them with unimaginative junk that makes fisher price look dangerous. This is also part of the reason kids are fat.

I climbed jungle gyms along with my friends 20 years ago and if you were to fall you would have been greeted with concrete. Not once in 8 years of being at that school did i ever hear of anyone getting hurt on them yet in Grade 8 suddenly they were "dangerous".

My point is that this thread is beyond ridiculous, do we honestly have to cry about vending machines at elementary schools. Phys. Ed is not that important of a subject to be taking in elementary school 3 times a week. What parents should be doing is trying to force their kids into wanting to have some sort of sport to play, instead of letting the government and school board choose for them. Also for the argument sake of fat kids, forcing them 3 times a week to play sports they wont actively take part in, will not help them. It will only cause more friction with other kids who will outcast and ridicule them. Not to point out the fact your not gonna make them skinny, and your not going to improve their education, this idea will only cause more damage over all to all the kids (yeah, dont forget this affects everyone's kids).

Taking away extra funding from gym programs by banning pop isnt going to help them either. Now the kids will be going next door to get that stuff. Well the bright side is that at least they will get excersize by walking next door LOL

Forcing kids to do sports will cause redicule? Oh give me a break. I guess we shouldnt force kids to do math if they arent good at it either? Perhaps all kids should pass no matter what?

get back on that left wing bus that brought you here.

personally we never had a vending machine nor even a cafe in my elementry school. the only time you were able to buy food in my elementry school was pizza day like once a month.

not until highschool was i able to buy food in school(mississauga).

I agree that just banning junk food is not the greatest solution, but its a start. i think they need scare kids into excercising.

"Excercise, or be fat like this guy (show a pic of a Jerry Springer guest:D)

I sit on my ass all day long now, but in still relatively thin (i know that doesnt mean im fit), thats cause i was outside all day everyday as a kid, because they made playing fun, and so i just did it more and more.

Same with me, and I only had 1 phys. ed. class a week that didnt make me fat. But notice how as time has passed on, that the magnitude of variety and convinience of junk food has grown into such a large industry, that we are becoming that much more obese as a society? So why let them win and sell junk food to kids at school? We lose in the end.

Well you forgot to mention the convenience of snack food available to kids as a factor for obesity. Cars dont apply to kids since they cant drive. Internet (video games), which could be a developing problem for some people, but you cant get rid of the internet so its a parental problem.

This thread is an attack against vending machines and kids, not the rest of us, this doesn't affect the adult world. And its not the easy way out, its just a step forward in forcing kids to eat properly again, or atleast go out of their way (which will annoy them) to go find some <---EXERCISE!.

If only someone could blow up your right wing bus, perhaps this world might be a smarter place.

Forcing fat kids will force a further seperation, and it wont make them healthy, considering their still eating junk foods, so what are you improving? Oh I know your improving yourself to sound more idiotic every day. One day hes slow, the next hes retarded. YAY!
