If only someone could blow up your right wing bus, perhaps this world might be a smarter place.

Forcing fat kids will force a further seperation, and it wont make them healthy, considering their still eating junk foods, so what are you improving? Oh I know your improving yourself to sound more idiotic every day. One day hes slow, the next hes retarded. YAY!

They aren't any good at Phys Ed because they're out of shape, likely due to lack of excercise more than what they eat. I eat McDonalds (or other fast foods) at LEAST once a day and I'm a healthy 140 pounds with no cholesterol problems. Because I work it all off, I play 5-10 rounds of DDR every other day and play competetive Laser Quest (North American Champion woot). Eating junk is fine when you're taking steps to work it off!

Jayx1 is right, there are tons of kids no good at math, reading, science, spelling, history, etc. etc. And they still have to do it, or they don't get to graduate... If passing phys ed means (gasp) getting healthy... I say Kudos to mandatory Phys Ed!

Oh crap! I think I just changed my mind... mandatory Phys Ed daily, and let the kids eat their , that way they decide when they get to graduate!

Are you forced by school to do any one of these extra activities? The argument doesnt work, because I already stated this is what we should be doing, not taking time out of classes to heavily enforce phys. ed. but to enforce it outside the time of school education time during their free time, cause lets face it, kids have lots of free time.

That might explain why you both look so similiar in your avatars. :p

Cars do affect kids because their parents drive them everywhere due to bad planning.

And as far as the "industry" goes. You dont think there are lobbyists hard at work on behalf of the healthy food people? Id venture to say that the exact same people who were selling pop will be the ones selling the water and juice.

Sorry but this to me is a very short sighted band aid solution.

It isn't what we SHOULD be doing... it's what we HAVE to do to remain healthy. MOST people find things that keep them active that they enjoy, so for MOST people, it's a moot point. But there are still a LOT of people who don't do anything active in their spare time. And you know what? That's their choice, and hell, even their right. But a school, that is supposed to be preparing children for their future, should have the responsibility to ensure that those kids have a future to look forward to by enforcing healthy habits. What use are reading and math if you can't get your fat ass off the couch to put them to use? Learning how your body works and how to keep it healthy is part of Phys Ed. you realize right? Science baby! Biology! And, this one's the kicker, it's even RELEVANT! And arguably more important than learning that 2+2 = 4.(A huge problem with todays education system is that much of the curriculum is irrelevant to every-day life, however, if you want to be a rocket scientist or chemical engineer... I guess you're going to the right place)

So the opposite of bad planning would be good planning, where instead you what? walk to the theatres or maybe you walk to the restaurant? I dont understand this concept of poor planning and driving everywhere you go? Kids walk to school, play in the yard, and run around the block. Does your family make it a habit of sending kids around the city by foot because its healthier than a 10 kilometre drive. Your right, its not a perfect solution, its only one more step ahead against fighting obesity, but 3 phys. ed. classes a week has its repercussions as well to the whole of the education system we have already in there. Obesity will be as hard to fight off as it was to slowly creep into our everyday lives. Atleast theyre making a stand against the fatty food industry.

You know what, this is really a moot point until we have some statistics of obesity, instead of generalizing about how many people are fat in this country, and how many kids NEED to have phys. ed. 3 times a week. Atleast with the stats we can actually make up a real argument here. Right now, all of us are working on speculation. :p

bad planning = these endless streets of subdivisions with nothing but houses and not so much as even 1 store in the midst. You literally have to walk a kilometre through houses to get to one store. Yes you should be able to walk to do groceries or at the very least, get basic goods. Strong neighbourhoods with healthy people are mixed residential and commercial similar to what you find in neighbourhoods built before 1950s and most neighbourhoods in places like Europe.

They actually came out with a study earlier this year that said that suburbanites are fatter than urban dwellers precisely for this reason. My personal weight has lowered ever since i moved into a mixed use neighbourhood last July. I walk almost everywhere to do my daily chores now and this was actually one of the attractions that brought me to this area.

Ah, I see what you mean, yeah, that I can completely agree on.
