I have a solution for pudgy kids and rising electricity costs:
Instead of gym class, get the kids to run in a hamster wheel connected to a generator for 10 minutes a day.
80,000 elementary students x 10 minutes a day = 800,000 minutes of electricity generation each and every school day!!!
Not only will our power costs go down - but the kids will become little "pump you up" Arnies...
... Jesus, I should get paid to consult or something. This is way too easy. |
DUDE! I always thought that a company should hook up turbines to a -load of excerisize bikes and hire people to sit down and spin the wheels all day. Electricity + Job production = t3h w1n!!1 |

Of course this isn't a "solution", but I think the gov't is justified in it's decision. Those are two different issues. Most good solutions aren't short-sighted, band-aid decisions like this one. A real solution would be mandatory, intensive health education EVERY year, ALL year long...with significant study time devoted to nutrition, healthy food preparation, disease prevention, drug/alcohol/sex ed., etc. |
i agree. i had sex ed in elementry school (grade 6) and i was definatly better off because of it.
now only if somebody had told me to investigage my family health record and see that my family is prone to heart attacks, i could have started eating healthy earlier, on my own. My mother always cooked healthy food, but i ate lots of junk on my own time
ofcourse you are always going to have the kids who dont give a , but why not make the education available for those who might actually use it. |

Id rather give people the choice. Condom machines are giving kids a choice. Banning junk food isnt. By doing both it sends kids mixed messages.
"It's ok to decide if you want to have sex but we don't think you are old enough to choose a coke over fruit juice."
It's the same thing as in the US where kids can own guns at 18 and die for the country in Iraq but cant have a coors light until they are 21.
It's one or the other. Personally i think education combined with choice is the best way to go. I read an article in the paper today that qouted kids as saying they will just be going to the store to get these things instead. The idea of salad and fig newtons didn't appeal at all. It would be interesting if they kept stats on vending machine sales before and after this ban.
You can educate, but mandating lifestyle choices is not effective and by making these foods taboo, kids will want them even more. |

education and phys ed should be the answer here. restricting junk food is nothing but an easy way out. It makes it look like politicians are doing something when really they aren't. |

When I was in grade school, there were no vending machines for us to get crap from...you brought your lunch, and that's what you ate. I think that it's a good idea to take away vending machines...they aren't necessary. Most kid's don't eat healthy, b/c they aren't taught to...I didn't learn PROPER nutrition until I reached my 20's!!
I think that phys.ed is very important...kid's need activity during the day, and a lot of them don't join sports or run around at recess. And they learn better when they're not all wound up!!
My best friends son is 7 yrs old and his teacher sends him home with 2hrs of homework everynight!! By the time he does his homework and eats dinner, it's time for bed. So, he has no time to play at night. And this is assigned homework, not work that he doesn't finish during class time!!
No wonder kids more kids are overweight these days... |

edit---obviously meant for Jayx1
you really are lucky we dont live in the US.
Id be likely to take one of the newly un banned assault rifles and put a dozen between your eyes.
chirst, back on ignore you go.
its a struggle everyday not to ban you for no reason other than to make you gone.
argh!!!! |
