welcome to the club, the concious(or subconcious) notion that you know that later someone will listen to this can throw you off big time

i'd think the notion of people hearing me live would be scarier, yet i take it with no problem. but the fact that i didn't even know i was being recorded, yet i was supernaturally sucky, i'm talking "it's a crime for you to touch a vinyl" sucky, when i can get faced drunk, get some tracks, show up at a party out of the blue and have a blast mixing, is just plain scary.

lol, I thought I waw the only one who had trouble when trying to record.
I hate it, I'll be able to get some great mixes down when i'm practicing. Then I'll tell someone about it and try and record it and it just doesn't want to work. I'd like to just record all my practices but I dont have the computer space, nor the editing software to delete the parts that sound like crap.

I do happen to have one very short mix I recorded that is almost perfect (well as close as I can get atm). It just kills me to listen to it and here at around 4:30 where I thought it was off and messed with the pitch, therefore making it more off. I recovered it though and the rest of the mix was good.

its all about being in the zone.

sometimes when im playing mario kart im just taking the corners without even thinking and then half way through the race, and im beating my own ghost by quite a margin, i realise 'im on freaking fire!' by which point i usually crash out of the zone spectacularly cuz im not focusing on the race, im focusing on how well im doing.

sometimes i dont even get into the race cuz im not in the frame of mind where i cant concentrate on anything other than how im doing or how im not gonna beat my ghost (which is UNSTOPPABLE i should add). you just gotta get over that by not thinking about it. in the zone, you dont think about stuff, you just do it (cuz you KNOW what to do). im beginning to sound like mr miyagi or yoda right about now. so meditate, get behind the decks, remember...wax on, wax off...hit record with a clear head...mix.

^^^ To solve that problem just record yourself everytime you practice. I do that and so do alot of DJs I know. I like to record to my computer, other people like to use minidiscs or tapes.

i would... only it's a BITCH to record on my PC because it's slow as , so i have to take a million precautions to try and maybe see if it won't sound like .

then there's going over to a friend's house to record, but that's always a bigger problem.

remember! no fear! the deck is your friend. the vinyl is the logical extension of your arm. feel the flow. feeeeeeeeel it. harness your chi and you too can spin records like van damme can spin roundhouse kicks. WHAAAAAAAA YAAAAAA!!

true. however, first time i mixed while faced drunk (which had always been a problem for me) i said to myself 'let me it up. already spun a good 2 hours earlier, so, i can blame it on the booze."

ended up spinning for 2 more, and only having my beats drift twice. WATCH OUT TIESTO!:p
