forgive my ignorance on this subject. im mainly a producer and spend most of my time in the production forum. ive run a search on this forum for 'trainwreck' and it just returned a hella lot of threads where people use this expression (it seems to crop up alot) but i still have no idea what it actually means. im assuming its either letting a record go out of time (cuz the pitch wasnt set properly) or its running out of vinyl. which one is it? how did the expression come about? thanks in advance. its just been bugging me cuz so many people use the term here and i dont really know what it means...

trainwrecking is when you fckup while mixing. For example, when u hear the beats off big time.

ahhhh thanks. yes trainwrecking is familiar to me after all. many a time ive let things go FUBAR and had to call in a mate to save a disastrous mix. ive never run out of vinyl though. its usually on its way and going out of time before i run completely out of record...

My definition of trainwrecking is messing up bad enough that the average non-DJ can tell you ed up. I hear most DJs slip a beat or two every now and then.

(Although, when Tiesto or Van Dyk does it, it's a HARDCORE TRAINWRECK FROM THOSE UNTALENTED HACKS.) :D

Yea Trainwrecking is what Tiesto was doing during TIC 2 and especially during the last hour:D Track selection made up for it though at the end.

It happens to everyone.. If anything, it makes you a better DJ to learn how to correct it quick enough before the crowd hears it.. nothing worse then a sound of shoes in a dryer.. just mess's up the dancing feet :)

Trainwrecking happens to everybody. It's just something that is part of dj-ing.

The art of dj-ing IMO is to correct a trainwreck before it becomes a trainwreck...

I don't know where the name comes from though, but if you think about it, it should be easy enough to figure out...

as a wild guess i assume that when two records are going out of time, its like a train derailing. when its spot on time, that train is hugging them there tracks and the ride is smooth. i assume it trainwrecks when its so out of time theres nowt else you can do except fade it across, whistle to yourself and hope that nobody noticed. but they always do.

actually its quite a good analogy.

Yup, or you can try to get the train back on the rails, if you do it quick enough, it's not that bad and you can try to salvage the mix somewhat.:D

also could be related to the clickety clack sound the train makes as its travelling..
