| What's the best digital camera media? I've heard that people have reliability problems with Compact Flash. Thoughts? |

xD cards are the fastest (as in speed to store the taken pictures) afaik
i'm looking in to getting a camera at the moment. price range 250-350 (rather around 300, i'll consider if a bit more)
canon a85 and fuji e510 and e550 have been suggested to me.
anyother camera's i should consider? any words on these camera's?

I want to purchase a camera that is a regular digital camera but will eventually have the capability of taking more advanced pics. I can't invest into an SLR because frankly I would not know what to do with it but possibly something that offers additional extensions like lens and flash filters.
I want to learn more about photography. |

| I've always been a Sony digicam whore. I prefer MemoryStick over any other photo media. The cam I have now, the Sony DSC-P41, only cost me around $200, came with a 16MB MemoryStick, and even on the lowest resolution, the pics still come out decent. Doesn't have optic zoom, but I don't need that. |

| I have an Olympus D-580. I'm loving it. The quailty is excellent for me (4 Megapixels) and for what shots I take. I have one complaint of it though. It uses an xD card, which is a downside if you have one of those printer cardreaders. Most printers don't have xD cardreaders, so you can't do any neat features with a cardreader printer (and belive me, I have seen ALOT of neat printers with cardreaders that have some really kickass features that I was about to buy but coudn't because no xD support) That's the only thing that irrates me, besides that, well worth the money. If you want I can take some random photo's to show the quailty. |

| what does the average non-professional digital camera have in means of megapixels now? I bought my sony clié NZ90 approx a year ago and it had a built-in 2.0 megapixel camera that i still use to this day, and i find it to be very good quality. |

| get a Canon Elph SD110!!!! man it small and takes GREAT pics. It's all metal so you can put in your pocket and not worry about getting damaged. Also takes video as well. |

i don't know about that, i have a 512MB Lexar and 1.0 GB Sandisk and have had no problems whatsoever. And I take ALOT of pics. Also most compact flash cards have the same writing speeds and/or won't notice any differences in most digital cameras in regards to the speed of taking shots. |

Same here, I use a 1GB SanDisk and two 128MB generic brands...no problems with either. You should replace the CF cards after about 4-5 years though, as they dont last forever.
Smart Media is the WORST imo...I broke a card in half by accident once, and I bought a generic brand card that makes green lines through photos. :|
xD is just way overpriced, even though a good concept. Memory stick is...well...memory stick and no one uses it but Sony.
Secure Digital is coming down in price and looks like it may be a contender to replace Compact Flash, the new Canon 1D mkII already has slots for both. |

| Also, about write speed, the new Lexar and SanDisk 40x cards are super fast :eyespop: And now the 1GB 40x ones are only around 100$ :D |
