In a popularity contest? Technically, Zabiela kicks much ass over Tiësto, yet he placed 15. That just goes to show you how much of a horrible contest it is.

In terms of advertising themselves and selling themselves to the public, no they are not.
In terms of opinion, though, many DJs are better than Tijs. We are going to like a DJ because of our own personal taste, not because he's ranked number one. If you like a DJ simply because of where he ranks in a cheesy popularity contest, then you really need to get a clue.

I don't have a fav DJ. I just realize that Tiesto is far below many in the skills department. You know what I can't stand? I can't stand ignorant music fans whom always go on about the Pop stars and how they are better than everyone else because a lot of morons voted for him. People who don't even know what a real DJ is. You can be good and popular, but being popular doesn't automatically make it good.

First of all, even though there are better underdogs too, not all of us are talking about underdogs.
There are big name dj's such as those I previously listed (Sasha, Digweed, Graham, Cattaneo, Kleinenburg and even Armin within the trance genre) that simply are better than Tijs. Brittany Spears is really popular, but how good of a singer is she really? |

I don't know that I qualify as a basher, because I'll admit the things he does well. However, I am a realist and he has room for a lot of improvement. I hear what you are saying about the EDM community growing, but I don't know that I'm happy about having a bunch of sheep join our scene. More unknowledgeable fans that don't know who Hernan Cattaneo or Max Graham are, but suck Tiesto, Oakie and PVD's dicks. I prefer rounded fans that can be critical without, necessarily, bashing, but being honest about a dj that lacks technical merit. Tiesto did a lot to bring me into the scene and I will always love him for that, but I have progressed and my tastes have progressed. I'm not even talking the kind of music he plays, but the way he plays it. |
