I really don't see what the big deal is. Do these people not watch Fox news? Oh right, it's banned here.
Conservative American politicians have made bashing Canada an artform. I dont think Bush really gives a rats ass if some backbencher makes a few stupid comments. I think its just another case of us being afraid of offending others. Its funny how we get offended because we think americans will be offended when in reality they dont give a rats ass.

Wed Nov 17, 5:19 PM ET Canada - Reuters
OTTAWA (Reuters) - A Canadian legislator with a history of insulting U.S. President George W. Bush (news - web sites) has gone on television to deliver her latest protest, taking a cameo role in a satirical sketch less than two weeks before Bush is to pay an official visit to Canada.
Carolyn Parrish, a member of Prime Minister Paul Martin's governing Liberal Party, stomped on a George Bush (news - web sites) doll with her heel in the CBC television show, "This Hour Has 22 Minutes", filmed on Tuesday. The episode aired on Wednesday.
Martin has declared Parrish's previous remarks against Bush to be unacceptable but has repeatedly refused demands that she be turfed from the Liberal caucus.
"He should get rid of her. I think people have an obligation to be mature and talk responsibly," Conservative Member of Parliament Monte Solberg told reporters.
The head of the Liberal caucus, Andy Savoy, said he did not favor her expulsion.
But a Liberal legislator from the Ontario border city of Sarnia, Roger Gallaway, denounced Parrish's move as bizarre and stupid.
"It's a pathetic spectacle that someone would behave in this fashion," Gallaway said, adding: "It's rotten timing."
Bush, who has had an uneasy relationship with the Canadian government and was miffed by Ottawa's opposition to the war in Iraq (news - web sites), is paying his first bilateral visit to Canada on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
Parrish said earlier this month that the president was "war-like" and she was dumbfounded by his re-election. In August she described supporters of the U.S. missile defense program as a "coalition of the idiots", and last year she exclaimed: "Damn Americans...I hate those bastards."
Bush is not popular in Canada, nor are many of his administration's policies. Members of Martin's own cabinet had expressed their preference for Bush's electoral rival, Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites), though none used the same sort of language employed by Parrish.

It is time for Martin to step in.
Being a politician is not just about sitting in parlement - it is also about being a statesman FFS. Apparently this woman doesn't understand that.
Further proof that we pay our MPs way too little and as a result get a bunch of flunkies applying for the job. |

And its also about expressing your beliefs. Hey you know what? even after all the american bashing she still got re-elected. And its no different than what comes from south of the border.
Its actually refreshing to see a politician that refuses to be a "yes man" even if she is acting a bit stupid. |

Hrmmm.. she was elected by the people, I really don't think the salary is the issue. She is just representing her constituancy.. if they don't like what she's saying, they shouldn't have elected her and probably won't reelect her.
As for Parrish herself.. I love reading about her shenanigans in legislature! As a dual citizen (CAN, US), it's funny to watch her say things about americans that are truthful on the whole. No one else has the guts. The fact that she will never hold higher office probably allows her to be "politcally incorrect", she doesn't have to suck up to anyone.
However, as a Canadian I do see the potential for her remarks to have political ramifications regarding Canada-US relations. But I really don't think the relationship between two countries that are so economically and socially intertwined will be hurt because of it. |

This is her second term as Member for Mississauga-Erindale. Her consituents have given her a clear mandate to continue to make their views known.
oooh, I just love saying *mandate* |

Not only was Parrish RE-Elected, and probably will be again. But I heard that she was the MP with the highest percentage of victory out of all of Canada in the election (although I haven't done the actual number-checking myself).
I completely respect that she's able to say what's on her mind. Political correctness is so pathetic. |

Perhaps what I'm saying is being missed.
What I'm saying is that maybe if we paid our MPs a reasonable salary we wouldn't get schleps running for office - we'd get people with more class, education and "executive maturity".
Why would a renowned executive leave his/her $500k / year job for a $150k / year in Ottawa? Answer – he/she wouldn’t.
Based on her actions, Parrish obviously isn't of the pedigree or caliber to deserve such a private sector job. |

but then again, just because shes overt with her speech/actions, doesnt mean she isnt intelligent.
when theres 1 person that stands out, there will always be people ready to pul them down cos they dont follow norm.
conformity is a bitch.. |

What is shows is that she obviously doesn't consider the consequences of her actions - which to me is an unintelligent thing to do.
Don't get me wrong - speaking ones mind is important, however there is a proper time and a proper context to do it - and Parrish doesn't appear to have the political grooming or capacity to understand that. |

many americans dont even know where canada is (if uve watched that show which they talk about...this hour has 22 minutes, ud see what i mean) |
