Geez people who really gives a flying how much djs get paid. If somebody agreed to give you 40,000 for spinning 2 hours at a club would you take it?Damn right you would. No one would say, "nah, I think thats a little to much for me could you make it less cause I dont think Im worth that much".

Quit being JEALOUS of Tiesto and other Djs who get paid lots of money which really isn't that much compared to pop stars and crappy rap stars and sports stars. Lebron James got paid like 100,000,000 for advertising a pair of SHOES. Talk about overpayed. Seriously man all these people get paid millions of people for doing nothing except singing, hitting a ball, catching a football,etc.. WHile the real hard working people(cops, mailman, etcc.)you get what im saying get paid ty money.

The world is just not right but who gives a .

The only example I know where someone has refused to take the amount of money they could is a band called Fugazi. They have no realtion to EDM and most people haven't heard of them, but they've sold out venues of 2000+ easily for years and they refuse to play if tickets are more than $6. I agree that the amount Tiesto is getting paid is way too much to make for what his name and one night's work, but the only way the prices will come down is if people who like him don't go due to the price.

I'll admit I paid $40 U.S. earlier this year to see Tiesto, but I will never go again for that price (he didn't even try). With entertainment especially it all comes down to capitalism though, because if it sells, someone is going to make a lot of money. The top Hollywood actors make millions per film, because Tom Cruise is guaranteed to bring in some moviegoers while other great, unknown actors work their way up and work other jobs to get by. IfTom Cruise offers to take the job for free, the studio will still charge the same price to see it, because they're open to make money.

There's so much competition at work, it's not possible to stop so long as many people want to see Tiesto or PvD or Oakenfold: The club is competing with other venues to book them and have to offer more money to seal the deal, they're competing against other clubs and entertainment in the city to get people to go there, etc.

The problem with this is that it's the clubbers that end up footing Tiesto's bill with outrageous ticket prices. If the club capacity is 2000 people, they'd have to charge $40 a head just to break even on the DJ fee. That's just way, way, way too much to pay to see one DJ spin for 2 hours.

right so let preach for a bit. when i saw pvd in sanfran it was common knowledge that he got $60 grand for a three hour set. the club holds about 2500 people. yep thats a load of money for three hours work but break it down. 15% goes to his booker and another 10% goes to his manager. still its a lot of money to put in your wallet at the end of the night. now then how many of us have burned a cd for ourselves and then gone and burned 3 more for our best friends. dj's make more on the road than they do in record sales. they lose SO much money because of bootlegging that the HAVE to charge that much. so you know what? i'll gladly pay the 30 to 40 bills to see dj whoever as long as they don't haul my ass to court for owning illeagal copies of everything theyve ever produced. i'll gladly bend over thank you very much.

and btw clubs make a killing on alcohol and water sales. don't be fooled.

PvD, Oakey, Tiesto etc etc are all millionaires - they dont HAVE to charge anything.

I think its only really tiesto & oakey who have set fees anyway - most other djs are always negotiable, so if you are a small club night promoter you shouldnt get put off by what you 'think' these people get paid, its all negotiable.

Yep. The average amount of money an artist gets from record sales is equal to the yearly wage of a city sanitation worker with two years' experience and no health benefits (true fact, too). The majority of an artist's income comes from live performances and various public appearances.

$80,000 a night? Bull. Utter bull. Thats 3 or 4 times what most people make in a YEAR. Even at $5 grand a night, one gig a week, that's $260 thousand dollars a year. That's a ing killing. Hell, at $1000 a night, one gig a week, they're making $52 grand a year. That's enough to live very comfortably.
MR STROKE
