That has nothing to do with percs, but...
I have a clear white noise sample myself, which I then run through various FX units (lots of reverb, possibly some distortion etc.) and there we go. A fully controllable whoosh. |

I agree. Even though it does have nothing to do with percussion.
I've yet to find a really good tutorial on how to turn a basic whitenoise filter sweep into that awesome "everything is being sucked into a vortex" sound effect. I absolutely hate having to use such a cliche example whenever I ask someone about this, but Sandstorm has the exact sound I'm thinking of.
I think it's something to do with chorus and flanging, or maybe even FM modulation or something? I can't tell. I recently created a pretty nice fwoosh effect in Reason using filtered noise, reverb, delay, and flange, but it's still not quite there.
And while I'm posting, let me be yet another of many to say "thanks, this tutorial completely rocked." I thought I had basic trance percussion pretty much figured out until I read this.

Again, I don't see what those things have to do with percussion. |

Melody & Bassline - Without any connection to percussion.
Compressor - A very importent and essential element when you build percussion. Am i wrong? |

Sure, but they're mostly Reason refills. |
