Mr.Oakenfold's set was by far the most memorable one of his todate in the city of TORONTO , You can always tell if someone enjoys playin' the GUVERNMENT MASSIVE and Oakenfold was indeed the proof of that!
The latest in Trance/Progressive music was played on during the two hours of Oakenfold's performance. The oneTrack that really blew everyone away was The remix of a U2 song done by the "OAK MAN" himself..(Beautiful Day-U2 Paul Oakenfold 2004 mix]

And as always MR. MARK OLIVER put on one HELL of a PERFORMANCE for both opening and closing of this highly anticipated event...

The highlight of the night for me was when Mark Oliver took over the Microphone while still mixin' one last opener track which had turned the clubbers to a frenzy and said

" Hi my name is MARK OLIVER AND I'M THE RESIDENT D.J OF THIS CLUB"
AND THE CROWD CHEERED ON!

TUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

;) :D 7

i saw your pics on luvtheguv.com, thanks for them!

you were taking pics of the same dancer at the front, who i was picturing. What did you look like? what were you wearing? i was at the front during all of oakey;s set, didnt move! no way was i missing a single beat.

I was the guy wearing a black shirt, with Oakenfold written on the back

the evening was awesome.

oakenfold kicked it up and stayed on.

he took it up to some interesting spaces, most notably with "Beautiful Day" followed by a brief sampling from U2's "Ultraviolet" from Achtung Baby ("Sometimes I feel like/ I don't know/ Sometimes I feel like checking out/ I wanna get it wrong/ Can't always be strong..." rocked out right in the back of the main room, a lifted my attention to those bloody asian hoardes that are so over-bearingly protective of their space.

mark took over the decks from paul quite nicely at first, but disappoints when he goes into his usual electro-heavy-thumping-darker-vibe selection. he practically always does this. and is a bit odd considering he's doing the dj thing professionally. one woold expect a greater versatility coming from the resident dj of Canada's top club.

shaya007, love your pics but why do all your pictures go to the O-Town types in the guv? lots of way cooler people on and about the floor that rely less on the support of gel and semi-translucent sunglasses for an edge. expand the variety of your subjects, man!

shout out to John from Sheffeild, who rocked on the floor like no one's business.

shout out to erica, the freezie girl, who has to deal with the crowd and pickup artists.

and shout out to the guv dancers, for taking my libido to 11. grrr.

Hey dudeman - just cause I wear HAIR WAX (not gel) doesn't mean I'm not cool or an o-town member.

I think you're jealous of our nice coif.. ;)

WOW!!!!!

What an amazing night, oakie was way better than I had expected. Great meeting Erin and bf and partying with ya all night. and Andielips and Callie5, randomly in the orange room bathroom. BTW, for thopse of you who never go into the orange room, you really should go check out the new reno, its amazing in there now.

And then there was MO.... who once again rocked the place and surprised us all by spinning till about 8am. We love you Mark.

To everyone else that was there great to see you all and we'll party again soon.

He should play more of his "electro-heavy-thumping-darker-vibe" selection because the heavier and darker the better!!!!!:D Different strokes for different folks but he didn't disapoint at all from my perspective and I could listen to Mark Oliver spin forever! He doesn't even spin too hard though because a lot of the time I am hoping for him to play harder and darker stuff instead of soulful type stuff.

He gets involved with the crowd and knows how to get them into it and can basically play any type of music and do it for long periods of time with his super dj endurance and his mixing is crazy too so there isn't much more I would ask for from a dj unless I want him to dress up like a red dragon and spit fire from his mouth which would be cool too:eek: :gsmile: :toocool: :haha: LOL

Edit: Damn beer

i wouldnt call marks set dark....... heavy yes.
hard crisp clean basslines (the soundsystem sounded mint latenight)..... a bunch of techno and a bit of hard ass techy tribalishy stuff mixed up with marks regular bangers (murder was teh bass and such)

Versatile? Considering a 9 hour set from Mark Oliver usually consists of trance, prog, breaks and house id say hes very versatile. In fact i remember the days when he used to play some amazing rare groove and funk sets.

I personally love techno and find it much better club music than the constant up and down of trance. But hey thats just my opinion.
