its a business, and if you never improve things, and other clubs do, would your club not eventually start losing people that go to it? they have a system in place that works, but when people start to bitch alot about how crowded it is and stuff, and they dont act on it, eventually it backfires.

They aren't really losing clientele. Seems like it's being replaced by the unsavory variety. Why? Because trance is becoming too mainstream now. Take Z103.5 for example, they play way more trance than they used to.

true they do play SOME trance, but the fact that play some tiesto songs and ferry corsten for example, doesnt mean in a few years its all going main stream. alot of it is still to hard for the gino beats type that listens to that station. sure its not like it used to be, but i dont think it will ever be totally mainstream. i just cant think of it all being mainstream one day, but maybe i'm just denying what is happening? i would be a pissed off and sad person if and when it ever does

I disagree about it being because trance is becoming mainstream. It is becoming mainstream, but the juice heads and coke sluts aren't exactly what I'd call a mainstream crowd. Mainstream would be like what I saw at Fatboy Slim, which was actually a pretty nice, laid-back vibe.

I think you can't nail it down to just one thing. The crowd issues are caused by a number of interacting factors:
- Greedy management that packs it too heavily (hard to be in a good mood when you can't breathe)
- Overzealous bouncers who start more trouble instead of stopping the trouble that's there
- Bouncers that are too *lax* when it comes to totally disruptive sketchy behaviour
- Other rude staff, like bartenders that try to stiff you and door girls that give over reduced list
- The now firmly-established pre-existing base of sketchers and juicers who attend regularly
- The immense popularity of the club itself, which attracts trendies and tourists who just want to see or be seen
- The burn-out of the old-school ravers who actually made it so great in the first place
- The increase in popularity of drugs like coke and speed and the decline in popularity of ecstasy (changes the vibe completely)

The list goes on and on... and these things don't necessarily apply to the Guv only, they apply across the board, but I think the Guv being the "biggest" and most prominent club has suffered the worst effects from it.

I have a confession to make... In the last year I have stepped my foot into the Guv/KH only 3-4 times, and those times I needed some heavy persuasion.

Once you check out other places in this city and notice a "cleaner" and more civilized environment, it's hard to go back to Guv. It's downright impossible. :D

oo I noticed this too, may be the crowd was pushy BECAUSE it was so crowded... when i went for PVD in summer it wasnt packed and the crowd was great...
Im feeling Docks more and more now compared to GUV
djshan
they were playing trance at the "indian telly awards".. it was shocking..

LOL at all the whiners. And they say i complain alot but after every guv party the real whiners come out.

All i can say is if you don't like water then don't jump in a pool.

I havn't been to the docks yet. Is it going to be rammed for Tiesto like the guv was this past June? I cant handle that again....

This is a totally reasonable point, as well as a tonne more already mentioned. What it boils down to really is the bottom dollar. Did they rake in their however many thousands for the night. I remember the fury after the first Labour of Love, I was there, and believe me you could not move. But nobody was shoving people around. Maybe the guv staff should take a trip to Boa. The bouncers and staff there are so friendly respectful and courteous, they actually freak me out a bit. Not being used to polite bouncers.

Anyway as said, after the first L.O.L. things did seem to change a bit, the crowd thinned out and it almost felt like a return to-the-day. But this year has been brutal. And when you introduce more alcohol into massive group environments, well it's only a matter of time before the beligerant few begin to ruin it for everybody.

I would really like to know of other clubs to go to on a saturday nite. Any advice, or opinions would be most welcome. Because honestly after this weekend I really do think I'm finished with guvernment.

If we are going to get into economics then we should be questioning why Oakenfold charges 10s of thousands of dollars for a 2 hour set.

it was pretty pushy in there i admit, i was knocked over on quite a few occasions but u gotta suck it up...(or get a drink stamp), like jayx1 says, stay outa the pool or whatever, you can always put on an oakey cd from 99 in your room and have all the space you want to dance.

pussies

at one point thou , when i ran upstairs and looked down on the main crowd i never seen anything like it.... just a sea of bodies, and speaker stacks, nothing else, unreal scene (scary thou, someone will get hurt eventually)
