Just so that I understand your reference point, what do you believe makes a great club, as opposed to a good night out? |

why does top tier djs as residents make the club good?? you make very little sense really. Not everything is assessed on 'achievement' and 'stats'. :haha: If you go out to a club and their music policy is coming across to you as really honest & there is some connection there with the DJ and the crowd (he isnt there becase a promoter wants to make money off him, or he wants to promote you his CD) plus there is a bit of history & some mutual respect from djs both in whatever that field is and outside it (no not necessarily BIG DJS!1!) then that is what makes a club 'good'. |
I think you misunderstood me. I was trying to feel out your perspective. The locals that are headliners at that club are not huge, money drawing dj's. I figured you might see that as a negative, rather than a positive. To me it's preferred. Denver, believe it or not, has a great local scene, full of good, unknown dj's. I prefer to see a lot of them over most of the headliners that come to town. Sure they are my friends and colleagues, but I think I would still prefer their sets. And, you're right, in that there is a way better connection between us as locals and people that come to shows, than there is for a headliner. |

My personal favourite is his (OMG really amazing!!1) trick of stopping the live record for a few seconds before letting it all kick back in again after a breakdown.
genius. |
Haha... he did that with Ferry's remix of Synaesthesia at N/ICE... ed it up gloriously.. dunno if you've heard it but it plays a strung out version of the riff and leaves a few seconds silence before the proper riff kicks in... he stopped it during said gap for about 10 seconds.. then somehow managed to pull the cdj BACK, and he set it off again at full volume right in the middle of the strings, sounded awful. He trainwrecked (and i don't mean trainwreck as in the tiesto sense, slightly mistimed/not quite smooth mixing.. but full proper galloping mashups) twice in that set... was definitely pissed :D |

| what on earth would put you under the impression that I would see 'smaller' djs as regulars as being a negative thing? :haha: |

Now I understand where you are coming from and you would probably prefer some of the more local clubs here to the Church. Funny as it is, I actually believe you would really enjoy some of the events that I have thrown. I'm not a big fan of the records that I've heard on Tresor, but I see what you mean by looking at the website. Way more underground, with dj's that many wouldn't know, if not from the area. I had the impression, due to your fixation on Van Dyk, that you would be more into the major headliners. But, on the other hand, that wasn't a very fair assumption, as I have heard you mention other aspects before. It's funny, because we butt heads a lot, but I think we think more alike than I would have ever thought. I like discussing stuff in this manner anyway, even if the other person has a completely different stance, which is, of course, the case at times. |

I dont understand why everyone thinks i'm one of thes OMFG PVD!!!11 types :nervous: well i suppose i kind of do, on a website called 'trance' addict, hes the only dj that i like that would ever come up in music discussion. I dont think ive ever seen a thread on westbam, moguai, ellen allien, miss kittin, dj emerson etc. And if you start one then the tumbleweed would be your only company. |

That's fair, but it is the way you come off sometimes. I know through multiple discussions that you're not just a PVD whore, but he comes up in a lot of your discussions. And, fair enough, you can't really mention those names. I, myself, know who Westbam and Moguai are and like them both. Moguai is sick, actually. The other names I'm not very familiar with, and I have a pretty open mind for different kinds of music. And if you were to bring up a Moguai or Westbam, most people, on this board, wouldn't know what you are talking about. I've never seen Moguai spin, but I own a couple of his records. How is he as a dj? Do you like Hyper? |

Moguai djs kind of different to his production sound. He has a very berlin sound, even though hes from dortmund i think. But when hes djing he actually plays some more 'proggy' things rather than always berlin sound electro or breakbeat. For example he was playing chable & bonici - ride all summer, but thats just the way he is.
I quite like a few things hyper has made but for me he is too samey & his sound is almost too 'simple'. Ive not seen him dj and i doubt i would want to. Breaks djs tend to bore the out of me. |
