BeB is a house party.
if we had trance djs in the past, it was to make people like you happy.
Personally I went to Bal en BLanc last year, paying near 100 $ only because there was Armin and Paul van Dyk.
I would have never paid that amount if small djs where booked instead.
and even if with smaller djs the cover would cost less, its a big event, big event means you have to pay a lot for a huge room, for all the lighting and sounds, all the technicians who worked for doing the setup... all this cost a lot !!!! BIG NAMES ATTRACT huge crowd which you need to pay all your fees....

Good if you agree with my statement.

But you are disagreeing with him in this very post. He is saying that BeB is the complete opposite of a trance party. The complete opposite would mean that trance has no significance to the party at all.

Then you say that the only reason you went last year was because of the trance. That was the same reason I went. Now tell me, does that sound like a party where trance had no significance at all?

Do you understand now? He made a statement, and even without knowing, he proved it to be incorrect.

Assassin,

Let us first agree that there will be several big-name house DJs coming, since promoters realize that Montreal is more of a house city than a trance city and thus can make more money by booking a house line-up rather than a trance line-up. The debate, then, is whether to bring in a big-name or a small-name trance DJ into town. After thinking about this, our difference of opinion stems from our difference regarding one basic assumption:

I believe that bringing in a big-name trance DJ will attract a large portion of the Montreal clubbing population that *would not have otherwise come*, while you believe that that same large portion would come regardless because the event is a "big event" with big name DJs (in this case, in the house section).

Thus, according to your assumption, you justify the possibility of booking a small-name trance DJ because you believe that the amount of *additional* people a big-name trance DJ would bring in over and above the small-same DJ is not enough to justify his cost. Thus, your conclusion is that promoters, aiming to maximize profit, would do better in booking a small-name trance DJ.

I, on the other hand, and based on my assumption, believe that a big-name trance DJ will attract more than enough people *that would have otherwise not come had a big-name trance DJ not spun* to justify his booking.

So the argument really boils down to:

How many *additional* people would a small-name trance DJ bring in relative to a big-name trance DJ under the current circumstances, those being BeB is a big event that people would "supposedely" want to attend regardless.

To be quite honest, we would need to do in depth surveys to answer that question, and without statistics, it's hard to argue objectively. I will say, however, that I can't blame promoters for making my assumption rather than yours in the abscence of such data, since from an intuitive perspective, it *seems* safer to book big-name DJs than not.

I think the clubbers that assassin speak of do exist in number. If the numbers are enought to justife the difference in cost i have my dought. Or i think someone who's been does these big parties would have noticed by now. Then Again. 514 went broke, and ray junoir is still going. And 514 brought in alot of big names. I myself know alot of ppl that would go to celebration, cream BeB and all the big events. but know absolutetly nothing about the DJ. They go cause its a huge party. And they would go to a club like aria when its well advertised. But knowing anything about the DJ not really. On the other hand some of my friend who don't even listen to EDM and hear me say Tiesto or Armin say. oh I think ive heard of him before. which leave me to beleive that alot of ppl with almost the least bit of knowladge about EDM would know a bit about tiesto and think wow i have to go. where as Im sorry but deep dish as big as they are for house. I really dought they know much about. Example, go to HMV, they have about 50 tiesto CD in the electronic section. How many deep dish CDs. One maybe. So leaves me to beleive a big name trance DJ will bring in more ppl.

If house if so much more popular in montreal i think its more for you're typical afterhours everyweekend edm loving fans. Like everyone here(which puts us in a bad position to judge because we don't see it like the rest). And lets face it in europe trance is almost like pop here. So makes sence that Tiesto would be more know then Deep dish.

Anyhow i think we would really have to see concrete realist numbers to prove anything

here's an Idea, why not book one big name trance DJ armin or Tiesto, then add another in instead of two big name........Above and beyond. you should still get all those that want to go the the big parties regardles of DJs, the ones that only know big names, and the ones that wanna see a lesser know trance DJ.
save money one getting two big names, and still tons of room for techno dJ and house DJ
