Last time I checked, the death toll has surpassed the 27,000 mark. My condolenses to all victims and their families and any people who have been affected by this disaster.
Beware and remember what I said, this is the first of many more natural disasters to come this century that will take away lives of thousands if not millions more people. No need to explain my reasoning, just take the global warming and increasing pollution levels as an example ... |

this tsunami has nothing to do with pollution and global warming.
But you could be right with the prediction. Lets hope not though |

Yes, I know ... I was saying this century is going to HAVE a lot of natural disasters because of the global warming and the pollution.

Thats why I said - this century is going to be a very devastating one in terms of number of deaths resulting from natural disasters. The Earth is going to be very active and destructive this century. There is no need to hope for the better - its time to prepare. There will be worse disasters to come, like major earthquakes, massive hurricanes, floods, eruptions, etc. - and there is no need to take Nostradamus' predictions for this century as an encouragement - its pretty evident and scientists around will tell you that this century will bear many powerful natural disasters.
Dont forget the guaranteed earthquake in California in the next 20-30 years. Or strong proof of an upcoming quake near Tokyo. Or danger of massive landslides in Atlantic (there is a volcanic island off the coast of North Africa that is in danger of collapsing into the ocean - which will trigger a massive tsunami that will probably swallow 20km of North America's east coast) and Mediterranian. etc.
Oh, and as for the aftermath of this 9.0 earthquake underwater near the island of Sumatra - it's shocking to say that the death toll will easily surpass 100,000 PEOPLE. Its truly devastating. Poor people, and a lot of foreigners/tourists are missing too ... |

Just saw a report on the TV which showed the devestation wrecked by this quake which goes as far as Somalia and Tanzania (my home country). It's absolutely unbelievable how fragile our lives are when we are faced with natures wrath like the poor souls in East Asia.
I agree with Magnetonium that this is probably not the last natural disaster that will claim such a large number of people this century. Everytime the worlds population has threateneed to exceed the natural equilibrium point, there has been occurances of similiar kind of disasters or plagues which result in the loss of live.
If nothing else, an event like this should make you grateful to be alive, and realize the preciousness of the gift you are lucky to have. I hope through prayer and assistance the people who have lost the most in the past few days will begin the process of healing and rebuilding their lives.
RIP all those who perished in this tragic disaster.
