its another inventive thing people who dislike the sounds that markus schulz plays on his radio show have come up with..

| Schulz's style has worn thin for me. Any coldharbour remix plays the same formula over and again (imo anyway). I guess if it works well a sound will carry over until (now) when ppl are sick of it. So what then? Argue some more, wait for a new set of sounds upon which to devour and spit out. Repeat process... |

progressive is progressive.
When done well, any progressive set is really cool to listen to, melody without cheese, cool groove with the musical journey.
But if you guys are just happy to peg a name on all the crap progressive out there I'd be more than happy to label it as American.

good call

Yep, that sounds like me alright... :p
But seriously, my criticism of this style of music (McProg, American prog or whatever you want to call it) is that is just takes the worst aspects of trance music and progressive music and fuses them together to create what is - in my opinion - a pretty dull matrimony. It's trance that isn't energetic or engaging and it's prog that isn't inovative, forward-thinking or in anyway interesting to the ears. While I agree that taste is subjective - i.e. there is no right or wrong thing to like - I just don't see anything in this style of music that is interesting or that hasn't already been done to death before. (Even the incestuous repetition within the genre itself is pretty nauseating - i.e. Probspot's sound.)
I don't claim to be an expert on this genre by any means, but going on what I have heard and what I've seen when checking the occasional tracklisting, I really do not like this type of music at all. I'm not hating on those who do, or trying to come across as some "chinstroking knowitall" (even though I reckon I could pull that off pretty easily ;)) just stating my opinion. |

i think to put it in a layman's term:
it is trance without the "edge" and prog without the heady bit.

just like tech trance is not good enough to be tech, and not emotional enough to be trance.. its like a hybrid of the test elements, rolled into one
(eg mark norman). |

Trance doesnt have to be emotional to be Trance...
Second thing is: define emotional
Half the stuff people call uplifting.... doesnt "uplift" me... |
|

exactly
uplifting trance is starting to bore me now
we're all different creatures, (nocturnal ones even - dave - :D)
therefor we find different music types emotional...
rock on the mcprog |

maybe emotional is too strong a word then jerry.. tech trance isnt trancey enough to be trance.

I have to disagree with u there dave, imo nothing makes big uplifting tunes sound better than when they have come from something more minimal and driving, i think big leads lose their potential when it's one after another. just my opinion tho;) |
