European S13's are called 200SX's and come with the CA18DET lump
The later S14 models came with the SR20DET lump
There are a few imported 180SX's in the country from japan that come with the jap SR20DET, but there aren't many of them
There have been a few engine conversions into the S13 in the UK, one guy has the VG30DETT lump from the 300zx, one has an RB25DETT lump and another persion has a big V8 Yank lump in his. Most people don't bother swapping SR20's into the S13 because you might as well buy an s14 if its that cheap ;) |

Well over here the S13's (called a 180sx) comes with either a CA18DET, or the SR20DET.
Then there's the S14(called a 200sx) which come's with the SR20DET ONLY, but sadly it's not as good as the SR20DET in the 180sx.
Sadly they all claim to be the same engines, yet they are different. Just take a look at the nissan pulsar GTiR which is running a SR20DET too, yet is putting out ALOT more power then the either of the other SR20DET's |

iirc, its not due to the engines themselves, its due to the small differences between the turbo's. A cheap upgrade for any SX owner would be to put on a turbo from a GTiR or S15 onto their CA or SR and you could run more boost. Also i think the GTiR throttle body is slightly larger, and again, that part is interchangeable between the engines. I think that as a whole, the SR engine is unchanged, it is just the ancillarys that each car has |
