A melody does not equal feeling. Especially when no effort is put into the production.

ok true, but if you have a good melody where effort has been put into the production, then you got feeling, people feel it and are affected by it, the music you listen to isnt the only music that has had effort put into it.

Please pass my severe condolances onto the aforementioned kid and any lady who's had your seeds :)

and back onto the point, I'd rather address people personally than 'oi wankface' or 'break' etc, if that's so wrong then dress me up in panties and call me mary :nervous:

Yeah, if it has a supersaw, it has to be a great production. All those saw waves... wow, must be something!

the reason i care so much, is because alot of people would consider some of my older music as "mc prog" or whatever, and say that no effort has been put into it and its made for money and that it has no feeling. But i know whats gone into it, and i havnt just made it for money, and it PISSES me right off that people think that it is, when they have absolutely nothing to base it on other than the fact that it was played on ASOT

who said anything about a supersaw? supersaws are popular because that particular sound is very powerful and can be used to rip melodies right through you! Not all ASOT trance is ing supersaws

Don't worry, I believe you, and I respect that. But too much McProg... well, it's gotten to me.

If it's not a supersaw, it's another stereotype that makes people look down on trance.

another stereotype sure maybe, but like i keep saying, originality isnt the only thing that matters, if a sound is used over and over, its because it serves its purpose well, and although you might not accept this, melodies do play a huge part in the mood of any piece of music, sure its not the only thing that counts, but if you have a good melody (which admittidly is hard to come by these days) and then something powerful like a supersaw to deliver it, then you are going to end up with a piece of music FULL of soul and feeling, which can really touch people.

I haven't heard a good trance melody for quite some time.

fair enough, ive heard the odd one here and there, and while they still use that classic supersaw, which yes, has been used a load, no matter how many times u use it, with a new melody you have a new mood. its not all about the sounds, and not all asot trance is supersaws like i said. Take someone like Derek Howell, sure, from what ive heard, its full of feeling, can be some really soulful stuff, but i couldnt listen to it unless i was in a certain relaxed, mellowed out mood. if i wanted to go out and jump around it simply wouldnt do it for me. but different music is suited to different atmospheres and different moods, times, seasons, and DIFFERENT PEOPLE. dont you agree?
