Stop being so ing slow. This has been discussed over and over, I'm not gonna list my reasons again. Go read the McProg thread, maybe you'll understand. |
I read that thread. All you said was that "McProg" is uninventive and banal. Over and over. You've never once given a single reason why what you listen to is any different, and I don't think you have a reason. |

Then obviously the stuff I think deserves alot more respect is not uninventive and banal? Jeez, I thought you knew why McProg is disliked by experienced listeners... |

You still aren't giving a reason. You seem to be suggesting that you only listen to music that isn't banal and uninventive, but you're buggered if you're actually going to tell us why it isn't.
Counter-argument: McProg isn't banal and uninventive, what you listen to is. McProg is a pretty new genre, so new that there isn't really a proper name for it. How can something new not be inventive? And don't try that "super-saws and big melodies" crap, because you may as well argue using a 909 kick/clap beat is uninventive.
NOTE: I don't necassarily believe that, but I have listened to some McProg and it isn't any less inventive and orginal than any other form of progressive. |

Agree with that ^^

I'm not saying "regular" progressive is the most inventive thing ever, I'm just saying it's better than McProg when it comes to just that. The times I've listened to Markus Schulz I could hardly tell the tracks apart, exactly the same thing over and over. With prog house I can do that atleast, even though it bores me at times.
Again, my taste is not the best, it's just better. :stongue: People who've listened to techno/house since the 80's probably have better taste than I, because of all the music they've heard. I haven't been around for long, but sometimes it seems as if I've heard more diverse stuff than others here, and that's just sad, because you shouldn't rely on some overhyped DJ to bring you the newest music. |

| So why don't I flame "dull progressive house" lovers? Because that kind of music isn't in my face all the time, and it hasn't gotten as extremely ridiculous as McProg nor dutch anthem trance. |

I fail to see what's so uninventive about McProg. It's mashing two genres up to create something new. There's no one saying they only listen to McProg. It's just a genre some people happen to like, and I'm pretty sure no one likes every single McProg track there is.
You're uninventive argument just doesn't cut the mustard, unfortunately. Trance reinvented itself in the mid 90s into more melody-centric music about build and release, and there are plenty of people who will rather kill themselves than listen to it. Likewise progressive, has anyone really took it any further than Leftfield and Underworld, 10-12 years ago?
My point is that you can't keep slanderising a genre for something it's not particularly guilty of, especially a style of music that's still new. If you don't like McProg, fair enough, but that's a taste matter. Stop proclaiming it as unoriginal pop music, because you just sound like a tit, as if you listen to some obscure style that changes every week. I'm not annoyed at your opinion of the genre, because I don't particularly like it, but you're not going to win any prizes for being obnoxious to everyone who listens to or produces a genre you don't like. |

Wow. So music with catchy melodies can't be underground, right? Like hard trance, and not that ty Euro-trash stuff, I mean the UK material. Pop as , huh?
It's a ridiculous attitude. So music gets better the less accessible it is? Riiiight. A lot of the time music that is unknown is unknown for a good reason. McProg isn't pop music. There hasn't been a single McProg record in the Top 40 of any country to my knowledge. The emphasis of it is not to make money, it's to make music people will dance to. And it obviously works. |
