I know, thats why I said that just because something it possible if the probablity approximates 0 then its not possible.

I believe in a God, but I think traditional religion is the biggest load of bull. Back in the day religion was used for the purpose of legitimizing war and uniting people under one name. (eg Christinity wiht the Crusades, the Spanish Conquistadores and Buddhism in India with King Ashoka). Religion in those times was used for this purpose but also to give peopel strenght and somethign to believ in becasue their lives were so miserable. In the world today, religion has shifted to something that we cannot pin-point but I believe it lies somewhere in the media whether it is music we liisten to, tv, or sub-clutures we associate with. People who still follow traditional religion are narrow-minded and are very weak people IMO, who need it to get through the boredom of their daily lives and tell themselves that there is somehting better awaiting them. Following a religion limits your actions and the way your think, and for that reason above all I think it is wrong.

I have been tempted to post a very long and explicit rant about the religion side of things but to be honest I have refrained as I may well end up insulting a few more of you than I had intended.

I will be clear about one thing, I respect that other people feel differently about it and that their opinion may vary greatly. I also accept that not everyone likes me. I beleive in the freedom of the individual to do what they feel is right as long as they are not hurting anyone else by doing so.

Religion in my mind conforms to none of the above values and as such has no part in my life.
Let me say that I would go so far as to say that I loathe it and think it's pathetic.
I understand that it works for some people and I will not question that.

Religion is the greatest passifier of the human spirit ever conceived. IMO

No god ever planned religion to be the way it is today unless he/she/it was a selfish unloving and uncaring spirit.

The way I see it... God is probably quite ok... I have no beef with her. Religion however defies logic.

It's so typical of our ego based nature to believe that we are something more. We all seek acceptance and acceptance by God is no exception.

Religion itself doesn't start war... But it is a tool in the process. Mess with peoples beliefs and it's easy.

Just look at this thread hijack for example. I know that Kristine Club had no intention of all this and for all intents and purposes it has been very interesting especially considering how this may have gone on another forum.

By the way KC, just becaue you happen to be religious does not make me think any more or less of you as an individual. I think it's brave of you to take that approach and also stick by it so I salute you for that. :) Given the topic I think that it was also actually appropriate to give another point of view.

Nice one guys for keeping this constructive (mostly).

Cheers

^^^ I couldn't agree with you more Nem. I only kept up with this thread for the first page, so this is my first time back in, and from Page 1 to 7 was quite the difference. I will have to read through all this when I get home from work.

Just wanted to get my post in under Nem in agreement.

Thanks for the post, Nem. I also respect your point of view although I may not agree with it 100% (there are parts I do agree with). I never try to enforce my beliefs, I just offer them to people to think about. I don't judge, I discern. I hope everyone knows the difference. I don't usually live the life of a super religious person and I totally see how some of you come up with your opinions about religion. I understand that God may not be what I think but I do believe in some sort of divine power and I believe that it is a beautiful and loving being.

Of course there's a possibility that there is no God. I've never received any facts that God exists, I just have my intuition. I tend to think that it's highly unlikely that some higher power doesn't exist.

I think this intuition you speak of is what some would call brainwashing, or perhaps you would like "societal influence" better.

uh, no. It's called intuition. I've had a few very powerful religious experiences and they don't involve the church or anyone at all for that matter.

And yes, some of them were drug experiences.

Everyone has their own thing, and I've done shrooms a few times. It can be a little much at times though. The 1st time I was really ready to get off the train, but it just kept going and going and going. It was really starting to mess with me a little. X is my drug of choice however. The only drawback is the wasting the next day completely. I have to mentally force myself to workout and do everything I had planned, as punishment for partying the night before. The one drug I don't get is coke. I've done it a few times. I've had some really good stuff and some poor stuff. Either way I just never seem to really get off that much, and when I do it doesn't really last that long. I guess thats a good thing as it can get really bad for you.

ive never taken acid so i have nothing to compare my shroom trips too but they were deranged. i had an off sense of perspective sometimes. for example i could twist my hand around and when im tripping its like im rotating it 360 degrees on the joint. i was so fascinated by this i showed everyone else this weird trick i could do with my arm (which wasnt really that weird but it really looked it). split my drink all over the place. lots of laughing uncontrollably. have vivid recollections of being able to hear and see everything. everything felt so textured and i could stare at things for ages and just be totally absorbed. at some point i threw up and it looked like i churned up a gallon of lumpy pebble like sick (was very shocked at this) but when i tried to clean it up i couldnt find it anywhere which was weird. i enjoyed mexicans alot because you laugh uncontrollably at anything. so much laughter it hurts your stomach.

the colour and the bright light was the best. the trails of coloured light were beautiful and the glowing blotches of light on my field of vision were v. pretty. i went to the toilet and the light was always in front of me and stayed in darkness. pissing in the dark was a bizaare and scary experience because in darkness i lose my sense of perspective and scale of the room im in. so this tiny cubicle like toilet felt like a huge black void. and i was pissing into this huge black void and my ears were filled with the sound of my piss. and i was scared.
