I think It's totally stupid.
1.4million EURO?

I mean how many DJ's in the world actually make that amount of money? I think It's a bit high and will any of this money go to the actual producers off the mp3's they found? I DOUBT IT.
I think the money is kept by the government. IS THAT FAIR? NO.
Load of crap...
Yeh I pay for mp3's off the internet and my credit card would hold records of most, or I get given free promos by producers, therefore how could they prove my cd-r aren't legel? or even my mp3's?

It's weird, they must of known or watched the guy somehow, and i didn't know you had to pay for video clips these days? how do you buy them? derr people rip them off TV for download. Theyre not for sale.

I mean with mp3 downloads soon to be available everywhere, no one can be a tight arse, when you can pay tunes for 2 euro each... but it might also kill the 12" record slowly...

It's a touchy subject,

Could be a load of crap to scare dj's... because they have no reason not the mention the dj's name.. and to be honest... if they fined him that much and he was THAT BIG OF A DJ!!!... he could afford all the tunes or he'd be on most promo lists.

That blows. I think his punishment was a bit too harsh.
Maybe 50,000 Euros with a warning would have been ok.
But it was rather idiotic of him to mix directly with mp3's as seems to be the case. If he was with CD-R's he would probably not have been caught.
Unless, someone tipped the police off.

serves him right for having mp3's that he didn't buy or license and try to earn money playing gigs. i have no respect for people like that. :whip: :whip: :whip:

I'll agree that it's wrong. I see nothing wrong with downloading and listening to them on your own time, in your own home or car. However, doing so in clubs, where you get paid to spin for large amounts of people, is wrong.

My only beef is that that is damn expensive. I'd like to know just who the DJ was.

stupidity never pays. morons like that always have it coming.. im sure well see more of this in the future..

i think it's a load of crap!

there's only maybe 4-5 dj's in Italy, who could be making those kind of FUNDS... and if was any of them, it would be all over most major dance magazines and websites.

:D

theyre going to fine someone 1.4mill euro, for 2000 tracks? which in total might be worth $10,000-$20,000? load of crap.

Maybe fine him the total cost of every track.. but he shouldnt have to pay for everyone else who is doing it

Now, I would guess he was using CDRs, and they suspected the CDRs were burned from illegal mp3s? How would they prove it? Do they ask to see the original files? Or can they tell that the mp3 is illegal by getting it off the cd? If he burned it as an audio CD, they wouldnt be able to get a hash code from it though, would they?

Maybe he was just using a laptop, and final/serato scratch?

by the sounds of it he was probably more heavily involved in the ripping scene or had acess to it as well + he must have been making a lot of money for his djing.

the anti piracy agency dont just raid the house of any resident dj who uses cdjs in the vain hope they have a few mp3s you know...
