FINALLY someone who speaks with sense....i can vouch for what you say because i was in Palladium, Sound Factory, Limelight, Tunnel and beleive it or not Latin Quarters and the Vault when i was under 18....
Times were definatly different then under Dinkins' rule...i LVOE Giulliani for everything EXCEPT what he did to the club scene...and yes you can blame most of it on him...but all in all his plan worked and was good for the city.
Limelight WAS strict to a degree....mainly with special parties in the early to mid 90s....but if u dressed the part then u got in...but if you were some wannabe bridge and tunnel kid...pfff forget it better hit that path train...but apart from Limelight i never had an punce of trouble getting into clubs or even drinking in the early 90s...
But as i grew...and yes when i was 19-21 i started to realize that age enforcement was a good thing because young guys TEND to get carried away with things...women mature faster then men so it doesnt have as much to do with girls.....
got stricter when Mirage started to close and went to Carbon i think....thats when i noticed my younger friends having problems getting in places...at that point i was over 21 so it didnt phase me.... |

LOL yale... come on lee, police have nothing better to do on college campuses than to bust parties all the time. i saw this all the time at an ivy league school (penn). a lot of places got shut down because of that stuff. i'm just commenting because you included a small city (new haven) along with the other two articles. |

To say that people 24-25+ or whatever aren't more mature than kids 18 is absolutely retarded. I remember thinking when I was a junior in college that the kids coming in were like wild animals. Then I remembered myself being that crazy too when I was a freshman. As you get older, you still party hard but TYPICALLY do it a more responsible manner. Of course there's always exceptions!! An age limit isn't a bad idea either. Partying next to 50 year olds bombed out of their mind is a bit creepy.
When I was under 21, we didn't just bitch about things. We got creative and got fake ID's or smoothed our way in with the bouncer. Then you get caught by the police and they shake ya down a bit and you get scared but later you toughen up. We don't just go "let me in, let me in" sniffle, sniffle
I can't speak of NYC back in the day, I didn't live here.
I had to walk up hill in the snow to get to the club. You could only walk 7 miles each way. Sometimes if you were lucky though the nearest wagon train would give you a lift. |

| I'd rather have it stay 21+ ... to lessen the already horrible crowds in NYC clubs and also to avoid having to deal with being surrounded with cracked out teenagers. |

Well........ it solves me not having to get annoyed by them while I'm getting completely piss drunk and slobering over some broke girls.
Live outside of NYC kiddies. That's how it is. It's mostly 21+. |
